MANILA, Philippines – For PLDT’s Savi Davison, the PVL All-Filipino Conference came to a sad conclusion when she and the High Speed Hitters stunned longtime favorites Creamline in four sets to round out their season on a high note on Thursday night.
In the game-changing triumph, Davison scored 27 points to lead PLDT to their first-ever franchise victory against the Cool Smashers, which they won 22-25, 25-22, 25-14, and 27-25 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Fil-Canadian hitter receives a second PVL Press Corps Player of the Week sponsored by Pilipinas Live citation for her scoring total, which is based on 25 attacks, one block, and an ace.
With all 16 votes cast by the print and web reporters covering the league run by Sports Vision, Davison was the clear favorite for the plum for the week of April 23–27.
Following the High Speed Hitters’ official elimination from the semi-finals race earlier in the game day, when the Chery Tiggo Crossovers defeated the Galeries Tower Highrisers to secure their spot in the next round, the wing spiker made an appearance in the non-bearing game.
Davison was determined to give their all against one of the finest teams in the PVL, even if their conference ended before their last game.
“We just had to give it our all since there’s nothing that we could lose, like Kath (Arado) said,” Davison stated.
“Now that I think about it, we defeated the two best teams in the conference.” It sort of illustrates how everything is possible when we put in the effort and show up, the speaker said.
Davison defeated contenders that were expected to make it to the semifinals, such as Sisi Rondina of Choco Mucho, Eya Laure of Chery Tiggo, and Brooke Van Sickle of Petro Gazz. The league is now being aired live at www.pvl.ph and the Pilipinas Live app.
The list of nominees for the weekly citation was completed by Trisha Tubu of Farm Fresh, Grethcel Soltones of the Akari Chargers, Ivy Lacsina of the Nxled Chameleons, and Gel Cayuna of the Cignal HD Spikers.
As the High Speed Hitters prepare to retarget the semifinals in the 2024 PVL season, Davison anticipates a more successful second conference later this year. The conference campaign is drawing to an end.
“I believe that from that, along with the ability to simply turn up without that additional push, that extra “we can go into semis” mentality. It would thus be really beneficial to know that moving into the next [conference], applying that, and pushing it forward, in order to add that drive and resolve knowing that we were capable of what we accomplished tonight, she added.
Enjoying her second shot at PVL, Alyssa Eroa
The story of Alyssa Eroa’s return to the PVL is an engrossing narrative of resiliency, perseverance, and taking advantage of second chances.
Eroa’s come back to the court with Galeries Tower has been nothing short of a glorious comeback after spending over two years without a professional club.
Eroa’s final PVL participation came with BaliPure in the 2022 Open Conference; however, the team’s quick dissolution ended the appearance.
Even after the loss, Eroa did not want to be ignored. She never wavered in her commitment to staying in the best physical shape and to seizing chances, never allowing her aspirations to drift into the background.
Eroa’s tenacity, nevertheless, was evident when she settled in at a local club.
There, she proved her worth on the court by showcasing her extraordinary abilities and winning the regional league’s Best Libero title.
Eroa refined her skills with every match, unwaveringly getting ready for her future comeback to the PVL arena.
Galeries Tower set off on a mission of atonement in the PVL’s All-Filipino Conference, accompanied by Eroa. The Highrisers showed impressive growth, winning three conference games, with Eroa’s experience serving as the cornerstone of their defense.
Galeries Tower embodied tenacity and perseverance until the very end, and even if their hopes of making the playoffs were dashed, they made a lasting impression on the league. Eroa’s resolute dedication and exceptional performance motivated her comrades, paving the way for an even more auspicious future.
