ILOILO, Philippines – sAfter a difficult start in the PVL On Tour, Creamline Cool Smashers skipper Alyssa Valdez and her colleagues found newfound momentum in Passi City, where fervent local supporters gave them a vital lift. With a resounding four-set victory over Chery Tiggo Crossovers, the team—still reeling from back-to-back defeats—reaffirmed its status as a championship.
Waves of pink-clad fans filled the stands at Passi City Arena, even if Creamline had a mixed start to the weekend. The club had faced concerns about their consistency and resiliency after losing their opening two games, including a significant loss against ZUS Coffee. Fan allegiance, however, remained unwavering. Visibly inspired by the enthusiasm and turnout, Valdez took inspiration from the steadfast support. The performance throughout several games reaffirmed Creamline’s commitment to its goal and sparked the team’s comeback.
Creamline halted their losing streak in the second match of the weekend, defeating Chery Tiggo 25–22, 25–17, 21–25, and 25–19. Valdez spearheaded the effort and finished first with 19 points, thanks to three blocks and 16 successful assaults. Her relentless floor defense, which included 11 digs and 15 receptions, enhanced her performance and stabilized the team’s backcourt. She had recorded 16 points and 21 outstanding receptions versus ZUS Coffee the night before, thus this was her second strong performance in as many nights.
Creamline’s overall strategy was supported by the captain’s leadership and overall output. She inspired a team that had been having trouble finding rhythm and composure in addition to her own performance. Those around her were boosted by her diverse offensive and defensive contributions. Middle blocks and defensive experts stepped up to support the comeback, while veteran setter Kyle Negrito led the attack with effective distribution.
In important times, second-year star teammate Bernadeth Pons helped stop Chery Tiggo’s offensive momentum and converted critical kill blocks in a complimentary frontcourt performance. Jema Galanza, an outside hitter, contributed strong swings and defensive grit to help create a well-rounded attack. The offensive flow was maintained by libero Marie Chrisnell Javier in the back row, who demonstrated unrelenting retrieval and improved passing consistency.
Creamline’s triumph demonstrated a unified approach and mental toughness more than a standout effort. The team relied on discipline and solidarity to weather lengthy rallies and bounce back from minor mistakes. The coaching staff’s emphasis on communicating and maintaining composure led to more reliable play in the second half of the game.
With the victory, the Passi team maintained their comfortable position in Pool A with a 1–1 record. More significantly, it served as a psychological reset, reiterating the team’s capacity to bounce back from setbacks. Head coach Sherwin Meneses was pleased with the team’s overall performance, pointing out that by focusing on their core competencies—balanced scoring, defensive tenacity, and disciplined play—they had regained their best form.
Creamline wants to further solidify its standing as the league’s most reliable and accomplished squad as the PVL On Tour goes on. After a historic grand slam in 2024, the team came into the season hoping to build on their legacy, but they have already faced early adversity. The Passi triumph, which combines team dynamics and star power to send a message of intent, provides momentum at a critical juncture.
Valdez’s growing status as an emotional focal point and vocal leader has paralleled her performances. The team’s spirit is revived by her capacity to motivate colleagues and establish a connection with supporters. The contrast between the enthusiastic court environment and the friendly Passi crowd highlighted the connection between on-court performance and community support.
Creamline will use Passi’s momentum going forward for the other tour stops and potential postseason participation. The major goals of preparation will be to improve transition game skills, tighten rotations, and preserve passing accuracy under duress. It is anticipated that the coaching staff will continue to use Valdez in important rotations while allowing role players the latitude to become more comfortable with their roles.
Basking in Passi City’s love strengthened Valdez’s conviction in the identity and purpose of the team. She totally brought that intensity to her performance.
