Manchester suffered 4-0 loss to Brentford

It was another disappointing game for Manchester. In a 25-minute first half, goals were scored from Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbuemo.

The first two goals were caused by an error from United goalkeeper David de Gea, while Mee out-jumped the newly signed Lisandro Martinez for the third.  

The Match

From unexpected goals, with just 1.4, Brentford recorded four goals versus United’s 0.41. 

Being 4-0 down in the half time, United headed on possession with 68 vs 32, pass accuracy 83 vs 62 and battles won 60 to 40.

Over the 90 minutes, the host ran 14km ahead than the United, 109.km vs 95.6km.

Five of United’s XI charge more on their own, Lisandro Martinez, Jadon Sancho, Harry Maguire, Bruno and Fred. Brentford’s starting costs £45.5million.

It was Brentford’s first win record in the Premier League. While it was seven consecutive losses for United, they scored twice and conceded 21 times.

How did they get here?

United did not suffer that seven consecutive defeats until 1936.

However, their first loss to Brentford since 1938.

This game indeed marked the first time since their second weekend in the inaugural Premier League season back in 1992 – 93 that Manchester United ended a gameweek under the table.

They found themselves in August 1992 suffering from a 2-1 loss at Sheffield United with a 3-0 home defeat by Everton.

United dropped 

Since October 2020, United has conceded four goals in the first half on three occasions that had never happened previously in the Premier League. It was against Tottenham and Liverpool.

Since the start of the 2021-22 season, they have conceded four goals in 30 of their away games. Although, in the prior seasons, that number dropped to 2.3 per cent.

From the time when Alex Ferguson emeritus the squad have spent over £270million on defenders, namely; Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, and, Lisandro Martinez all of them cost millions.

During Erik ten Hag’s first two competitive games in charge of the club they conceded six goals.

A decade ago United missed out on the 2011-12 Premier League title on goal difference while, the opponent Brentford finished ninth in League One.
