MANILA, Philippines – Just this past weekend, at the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Championship, the Akari Chargers’ explosive middle blocker tandem of Fifi Sharma and Ced Domingo stole the show with their overpowering play at the net, helping their side defeat Nxled in straight sets. This thrilling game, which pitted the Chargers against their sibling club, took place at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex.
The final scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-20 demonstrated superiority, but Sharma and Domingo’s outstanding blocking performance was what really made the difference. Eight of the team’s twelve blocks came from their powerful combination above the net, making them too much for the Chameleons to handle.
At five feet eleven inches, Fifi Sharma was a formidable player who finished with a game-high 13 points and six rejections. Her ability to score goals combined with her superior defensive skills made her a nightmare for the opponent. The 5-foot-9 Ced Domingo, not to be outdone, showed off his flexibility by outscoring the former La Salle standout with 12 points of his own and helping on two kill blocks.
Sharma and Domingo had a clear synergy as they read the game well and coordinated their actions with ease. Their persistent resolve and camaraderie at the net built an impenetrable wall that frustrated the Chameleons’ attacking attempts and decisively propelled the Chargers to their second conference victory.
As her running buddy, Sharma is just happy to have someone who possesses the same intensity as Domingo—someone she previously acknowledged as an inspiration.
The Chargers’ triumph was largely attributed to head coach Raffy Mosuela of Akari, who revealed that she gave setter Michelle Cobb the order to feed Sharma and Domingo early in the game.
The squad worked really hard in training after their devastating loss to the formidable Petro Gazz last Saturday, and the daughter of former PBA star Carlo Sharma noted that it was a fantastic triumph overall.
Throughout the course of an hour and twenty-two minutes of play, Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Faith Nisperos both contributed eight points.
Cobb contributed well as well, scoring three points and recording 14 superb sets, while Bang Pineda recorded 11 excellent digs.
Meanwhile, Aby Maraño goes over and above for her Sta admirers. Rosa
Also last weekend, Santa Rosa supporters received a great deal from Chery Tiggo squad captain Aby Maraño.
Maraño came out of the dugout during the second game between Galeries Tower and Capital1 to take some fan photos in the lower box area of the Santa Rosa Sports Complex, following his pivotal part in the Interactions’ 25 to 18, 26 to 24, 25 to 23 victory over Creamline.
Maraño cheerfully smiled for every picture taken during her spontaneous meet and greet, happily accommodating everyone and making the line grow longer by the moment. She stood there for about an hour.
When the line started to get shorter, the crowd enthusiastically cheered and applauded for the 31-year-old middle blocker because of his efforts.
Nearly the whole crowd supported the fan-favorite reigning champs in the thrilling encounter between the Crossovers and the Cool Smashers.
Even though Creamline had most of the fans rooting for them, Maraño thanked the Santa Rosans for their support of all three teams in the triple-header.
Maraño finished the game with just six points, but her zeal and experience helped the young Crossovers win in both sets. The win ended Creamline’s 19-game winning run.
In addition to planning a three-day team-building activity for Chery Tiggo, the 5-foot-8 pride of Passi, Iloilo revealed that she also prepared dinner for them after they suffered consecutive defeats against Farm Fresh and Choco Mucho.
In order to distract the players from their losing streak and aid in their recovery, Maraño also devised tasks and diversions.
The Crossovers were able to rise above their slump and defeat Creamline, a team that hasn’t lost a straight-set match since 2019, thanks in large part to the former F2 Logistics star’s efforts.
