The Nxled Chameleons are finally getting their moment on the biggest stage.

After a roller-coaster elimination campaign, Nxled secured a place in the championship match of the 2026 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference, marking the first Finals appearance in franchise history.

What makes the Chameleons’ breakthrough even more remarkable is that they did not have to win their way into the championship match on their own.

Instead, they had to wait for the outcome of the final elimination game between defending champion PLDT and powerhouse Creamline.

And when PLDT pulled off a stunning five-set victory, Nxled’s place in the Finals was officially sealed.

The High Speed Hitters defeated the Cool Smashers, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12, in a thrilling match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night. The result eliminated Creamline from the title race and sent Nxled through to face Thailand’s EST Cola in the championship showdown.

The Chameleons had already done their part earlier in the day.

Nxled defeated Farm Fresh, 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, to finish the preliminary round with a 3-2 record. But victory alone was not enough to guarantee a Finals berth because Creamline and PLDT could also finish with identical records.

That left Nxled in an unusual position.

After completing its own schedule, the team could only watch from the sidelines and hope the final result went its way.

PLDT ultimately delivered exactly what the Chameleons needed.

The High Speed Hitters entered their match against Creamline already out of contention for the championship because of the tournament’s tiebreak system. Nevertheless, they refused to simply play out the remainder of their schedule.

Instead, PLDT produced one of its most memorable performances of the conference.

After taking the opening set, the defending champions watched Creamline take control by winning the next two frames. PLDT then fought back in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth frame.

With everything on the line for Creamline, the High Speed Hitters remained composed in the final set.

The match was tied at 5-all before PLDT created separation. Jovie Prado played a key role in the decisive stretch, while Creamline also committed several costly errors. PLDT eventually built a 12-7 advantage and held its nerve through a late Cool Smashers push.

Savi Davison then ended the contest with a well-placed drop shot, completing a comeback that lasted two hours and 23 minutes.

Davison was sensational throughout the contest, finishing with 37 points while also contributing heavily in defense. Prado, meanwhile, delivered 14 points, 11 digs and 14 receptions and was recognized as the game’s Best Player.

But the significance of the victory extended well beyond PLDT’s individual performances.

By beating Creamline, PLDT changed the identity of the second Finals participant.

All three teams—Nxled, Creamline and PLDT—finished the preliminary round with 3-2 records. Nxled, however, accumulated 10 FIVB tiebreak points, enough to place the Chameleons second overall.

Creamline finished third with nine tiebreak points, while PLDT ended fourth with eight.

For Nxled, it represents a huge step forward.

The Chameleons have shown throughout the tournament that they can compete with some of the country’s most established volleyball programs. Their campaign included a significant victory over PLDT earlier in the tournament, while they also survived a challenging match against Ho Chi Minh City to keep their Finals hopes alive.

They now have an opportunity to turn that consistency into something even bigger.

Standing in their way is EST Cola.

The Thai club secured the first Finals berth after sweeping Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, 25-19, 26-24, 26-24, to finish the elimination round on top with a 4-1 record.

Interestingly, EST Cola and Nxled have already met once during the tournament.

That encounter produced one of the conference’s most dramatic matches, with EST Cola escaping with a five-set victory after recovering from a massive deficit in the fourth set.

Nxled will therefore enter the championship match knowing exactly how dangerous the Thai side can be.

But the Chameleons also have something EST Cola does not: the opportunity to make franchise history.

The Finals appearance guarantees that Nxled’s name will be written into the PVL record books regardless of what happens next.

Now, however, the Chameleons will want more than simply reaching the championship round.

They will want to finish the improbable journey with a trophy.

Their path to the Finals was unconventional. They won when they needed to win, survived when elimination seemed close, and ultimately benefited from a PLDT team that refused to surrender despite having no chance of reaching the championship match.

That makes the story even more compelling.

PLDT played for pride.

Creamline played for another Finals appearance.

And Nxled waited for the result that could change its history.

Now, the Chameleons no longer have to wait.

Their biggest match is next.
