Goa will kick start their campaign in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 as they meet Assam on the opening day of the competition. They need this match more than Assam to redeem their name from the shame of last season.
Assam and Goa are placed in Elite Group E alongside Punjab, Rajasthan, Railways, and Services. Goa will look to perform better than last year, where they finished fifth in Elite Group A with a single win and four losses. Beating Assam will be the main goal of the Goa team because if they start by winning the match, then they may carry on with the good chain of wins and possibly win the Vijay Hazare Trophy in this year’s edition. However, it is going to be a tight match as both teams will be racing to grab the top position on the group ranking and increase their chances of winning the tournament.
Assam, on the other hand, finished second in the Plate Group with five wins in as many matches. However, they are placed in an elite group this time, and it would be difficult for them to register even a single win. However, one should not throw caution to the wind as we have seen teams that were termed as poor and weak turn out to be somehow a surprise and take down even larger and stronger teams than them. This means that even if Assam has a slim chance of winning the match, they still have a chance and that is what counts.
It will be tough for Goa and Assam to advance to the next round from their group, but both sides will try to notch up maximum-possible wins under their belt to have a good season.
