Hafthor “The Mountain” Bjornsson, a Game of Thrones character and former strongman contender, wants to challenge world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

According to TMZ Sports, Bjornsson reacted immediately to Fury’s Instagram post on Wednesday, which therefore actually read: “I wonder if Thor Bjornsson could take a crashing right hand to that big jaw. Who would have Thor’s hammer? Would this mountain be too big to climb?”

The Mountain isn’t backing down, as the Mountain answered.: “I’m 100% up for war. Let’s do this.”

It’s unclear whether Fury was putting down a serious challenge, but if he was, they’d be physically equal because they’re both 6’9″, though Bjornsson certainly has the muscle bulk edge.

In terms of boxing experience, though, there is no contest, with Fury clearly the winner.

With a 33-0-1 record and 23 knockout victories, Fury, 33, is probably one of the best heavyweight fighters of all time. He is the current WBC and The Ring heavyweight champion, and he has previously held the WBA (Super), WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight belts.

Fury won back-to-back knockouts over Deontay Wilder in 2020 and 2021, and he most recently regained his heavyweight championships in April with a TKO win over Dillian Whyte in his native England.

Bjornsson, 33, won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018 and has already won Europe’s Strongest Man and the Arnold Strongman Classic.

In addition to acting, the Icelandic celebrity has taken up boxing, appearing in four professional fights. The Mountain has a 2-0-2 record, with one of his victories coming via knockout.

Despite his intimidating stature and power, Bjornsson would most certainly be outmatched in a boxing contest versus Fury, but an exhibition would surely create a lot of interest.

About Hafthor Bjornsson

Thor (Hafþór Jlus Björnsson) is an Icelandic professional strongman. He is the first and only person to have won the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe’s Strongest Man, and World’s Strongest Man all in the same calendar year, and he has several championship titles from other strength federations, as well as numerous world records. He is the third most decorated strongman in history, behind Lithuania’s arnas Savickas and Poland’s Mariusz Pudzianowski, and analysts and strongman specialists believe Hafþór to be the strongest man to have ever lived owing to his ‘brute strength’ and supremacy in every known strongman event.

Hafþór is also an actor, having spent five seasons as Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
