According to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, NFL running backs Adrian Peterson and Le’Veon Bell have agreed to meet in a boxing bout on July 30 at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
According to reports, the bout would be an exhibition on the undercard of Social Gloves 2.
MZ Sports said earlier Monday: “The fight card is already stacked with big names—as we previously reported, ex-NBA player Nick Young is fighting against rapper Blueface and McBroom is going up against YouTuber AnEsonGib.”
The celebrity boxing fight fad has gained traction in recent years, with the YouTuber brothers Jake and Logan Paul in the forefront.
In 2021, Peterson, 37, appeared in four games for the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks, running for 98 yards and two touchdowns. The seven-time Pro Bowler, four-time first-team All-Pro pick, and 2012 MVP is presently a free agent.
Bell, 30, is also a free agent. In 2021, he played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, running for 101 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. Bell is a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro.
The fact that the two guys are apparently in discussions to compete in a boxing battle in late July suggests that neither will be with an NFL team come the start of the 2022 season.
That comes as no surprise to Bell, who pondered retiring from the NFL in 2021 until the Bucs approached him and eventually signed him in December.
“Yeah, I was going to be done,” he said at the time. “I was at the point where I wasn’t really going to play football. I was going to focus on boxing. Once you get that phone call—it was like, ‘Oh yes, this is it.'”
However, it appears that neither guy has received that phone call this offseason.

Peterson concluded his collegiate career as the Sooners’ third-leading rusher all-time. He is widely regarded as one of the finest running backs in NFL history.
