Terrence Romeo will miss the start of the season for the San Miguel Beermen.
Coach Leo Austria stated the team will not rush the return of one of its leading scorers, who has missed all of the team’s games this season due to back spasms.
“Walang timeline sa kanya. [for him there is no timeline] The doctor told him to stay at home because they didn’t want to compromise the healing process in his back,” Austria said following San Miguel’s hard-fought 87-81 victory over Magnolia on Friday.
Already missing Romeo, the Beermen’s injury difficulties were exacerbated when important players Chris Ross and Vic Manuel were injured during the game against the Hotshots.
Ross left the game after injuring his knee while attempting a layup late in the second quarter, while Manuel’s calf issue was compounded in the first half.
He believes San Miguel has no reason to rush the injured players back into action, particularly Romeo, who averaged 14.8, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals last season.
“Hopefully, sana makarating siya, makaabot siya pagdating ng playoffs, [hopefully he would be about to get there when playoffs came]” Austria mentioned. “Pero [but] we’re not in a hurry because what’s important for us is yung career ng bata.”
