In Boston, it appears that TNT’s relationship with star player Mikey Williams is nearing a happy conclusion after months of tense renegotiation talks that nearly reached “the point of return.”
Williams, the PBA Rookie of the Year, announced on Friday that he had planned his own route and will arrive in Manila at 4:20 a.m. this coming Sunday
TNT has been quoted to have decided on canceling Mikey’s offer after he misses another trip.
Williams intends to sign a new contract with the Tropang Giga and lead the team’s ongoing quest to defend their Philippine Cup title, which has gotten off to a shaky start without him.
“I really look forward to joining my teammates at TNT again,” he mentioned to SPIN.ph.
Williams, a knockdown shooter with an unusual ability to generate his own shot, also explained why he missed two earlier TNT-arranged trips.
“Mikey Williams has yet to sign a contract. “We still don’t have him,” Reyes said on Power & Play on Radyo 5.
“That issue is that he has a two-year contract,” Reyes explained, “but there is a stipulation in there that if we win a title, he has the ability to re-negotiate.” “We’re working on that right now.” “Humahaba lang ng kaunti. [it is just getting longer]”
“You know how things happen, medyo humaba lang ng kaunti, [it is just getting longer]”He added. “Both parties are eager to get things done, and I’m looking forward to tying it up as quickly as possible,” Reyes said.
