“The Amazing ” Marcio Lassiter hit the one thousandth (1000th) three point shot during the match between SMB and NLEX at the Ynares Sports Center, Antipolo, just this Friday.
No easy feat for an athlete to hit, Lassiter hit the iconic basketball milestone in the match with NLEX that ended in a 100 to 92 victory in favor of the San Miguel Beermen. He henceforth joins the three points superstar and legend Jimmy Alapag in an elite list of the best shooters in the game. Alapag holds 1,250 three point shots, gunning a massive record of big threes in his noteworthy career.
With the fore mentioned, the list of three point greats include Allan Caidic “The Triggerman” of SMB, the “Big Game” James Yap of Rain or Shine , “Cebuano Hotshot” Dondon Hontiveros of the Alaska Aces, the legendary Ronnie Magsanoc who now coaches the Meralco bolts, “El Tinyente” LA Tenorio of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the PBA’s Spider Man Arwind Santos, and the also legendary Al Solis, which made the feat even more special for the 35-year-old San Miguel Beerman.
And he shares “Truly honored. I’m blessed.” Lassiter had four three pointers in this recent win against NLEX. “You’re speaking of Hall of Fame players, legends, the best to do it. And that’s something that you can’t really take away. It’s in the history books. Just grateful and thankful,” the humble achiever expressed.
According to Lassiter, him hitting the amazing milestone is a result of the hard work he has put in over the years, and that he would continue to give his all to help the Beermen win more championships. All his efforts and the unwavering support of the team were truly well spent.
“It just speaks to the craft and me putting in the hard work all these years, continuing to believe in myself and my teammates. They are the ones who have been passing me the ball all these years – from Powerade, Petron, even here. Just got to thank everyone and just keep believing in my abilities,” Lassiter further describes.
He is simply not stopping here, our three point gunner now has his sights on topping the three-point list and winning more championships for his team. He will not be settling at 1,000th but wants to be the best in the three point craft. In order to do this, he will be focused on improving with defenses becoming better in the league. He will not be doing this alone for sure, but with the help of the mighty San Miguel Beermen with him.
Lassiter says “I want to reach the top. That’s been my goal ever since. I believe in myself. It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be harder. Each year, it gets harder just because defenses are getting better,”
“But I’m just going to continue to try to improve my craft and my shot and making sure that I stay consistent, keep my percentages up, and I think if I keep my percentages high every year like I’ve been doing, good things will happen,” said our record breaking Filipino American three point gunner.
Aiming for improvement despite the well deserved milestone, Lassiter further emphasizes on the need for consistent hard work and personal improvement, a me against me mindset. He states “But I’m just going to continue to try to improve my craft and my shot and making sure that I stay consistent, keep my percentages up, and I think if I keep my percentages high every year like I’ve been doing, good things will happen,”
“In that same aspect, I can help the team win more games and get closer to our main goal which is always the championship. That’s my main goal every season.” Truly a team player not just a talented three point shooter.
