At the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Sunday, Northport relied on Arvin Tolentino late to defeat Terrafirma, 104-100, and end a two-game losing streak.
With his 28 points, Tolentino helped the Batang Pier win and square their record at 4-4 (win-loss). He also made some crucial baskets.
Even though they came close to overturning a 17-point lead, Terrafirma slumped to 3-6 and suffered their third straight defeat.
With 1:31 remaining, Tolentino made a three-pointer to help NorthPort retake the lead, 100-99. His jump shot increased the margin, and two free throws with 16.5 seconds remaining decided the outcome.
He led the team to victory, snapping a two-game losing streak, with a game-high 28 points on a 50 percent shooting clip and nine rebounds.
Tolentino was the one who received the penalty for the foul on Go, but he made sure to make amends by making the key trey to regain the lead.
In addition to making three three-pointers on 10-of-20 shooting from the field, Tolentino added nine rebounds and two blocks.
For the Batang Pier, JM Calma and Joshua Munzon each contributed 18 and 14 points, while Paul Zamar tallied 21 points and six rebounds.
For the Dyip, Juami Tiongson scored 25 points and dished out five assists, and Javi Gomez de Liano chipped up with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Before Tolentino earned himself some redemption in the final minutes, Isaac Go scored 11 points, featuring a three-point play off a Tolentino foul that brought Terrafirma within 99-97.
