MANILA, Philippines – Although Converge appears to be in decline and Phoenix Super LPG is enjoying success, it is impossible to predict how their PBA Commissioner’s Cup match at the PhilSports Arena on Saturday will go.
At least not in the eyes of Jonathan Williams III, who is leading his Fuel Masters into the game looking to win their fifth straight against a FiberXers team that has lost its last four games.
“Please just come play and let me give it everything I’ve got. My perspective is that way,” Williams remarked.
Even though he is reminded that typical highly regarded teams which include Barangay Ginebra, San Miguel Beer, Meralco, and TNT are always a threat to his group of people, Phoenix coach Jamike Jarin must agree.
“It indicates not one straightforward match in this instance regarding the PBA,” Jarin declared, going on to say that his team will handle those so-called “exceedingly team members” when it comes time for them to play against him.
When they’re at this moment, we’ll be going to get ready for just one match at a period.
After Phoenix defeated Terrafirma 103 to 84 on Wednesday, Jarin and Williams had a conversation. The former NBA player scored 29 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, and disheveled four assists in that game, spearheading a decisive second-quarter run that gave the Fuel Masters complete command.
On the other hand, Williams gave his teammates partial credit.
We’re a young group so we have to support one another on as well as off the court to stay competitive. Everyone must maintain our growth in order by continuously taking advantage of wins.
Converge is a formidable opponent, as demonstrated by their 96 to 105 loss to SMB at the Tiaong Convention Center in Quezon last week, despite their unbeaten record.
A June Mar Fajardo-led comeback by the Beermen put an end to the FiberXers’ valiant comeback attempt in that game, which saw them come back from an 18-point deficit to within 84 to 85.
Converge’s chances of winning should improve with some tweaking to its offense, particularly in the 3-point area where it is currently shooting at a dismal 29 percent clip. It should also work to keep Williams from reaching his typical stat line of 26.2 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists.
