Calvin Abueva has been banned and punished by the PBA for his behavior during last Sunday’s Philippine Cup play between Magnolia and Ginebra.
The league said Tuesday that the 33-year-old will be suspended for one game and fined 10,000 pesos for unsportsmanlike behavior.
Abueva already had previously all been cautioned the previous season for unsportsmanlike behavior, and a repeat infraction would indeed result in a ban.
When the ‘Beast’ departed the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay immediately afterward after being simply dismissed early in the fourth quarter of the Manila Clasico for his second technical foul of the game, he became a big subject on social media once again.
And, on his way actually out of the dugout, the reigning BPC was heard yelling “Japan, Japan,” probably in aggravation with what really actually occurred to him in the game, which the Hotshots finally won 89 to 84.
Abueva even really actually turned to Instagram to challenge the PBA to study the film and figure out what went so wrong, but the post has now been completely removed.
As a direct result of the potential penalty, the Kapampangan star would be unable to compete directly in the Hotshots’ match against all of previous squad Phoenix Super LPG on Friday, also at MoA Arena.
In their previous two games, Abueva seems to have everything typical. In their games against San Miguel and Ginebra, he averaged only 6.5 points and 7.0 rebounds.
This after averaging 16.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in their very first three games, including a 23 point, 12 rebound overall performance against NorthPort last Wednesday.
