MANILA, Philippines – In a game that opens the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the PhilSports Arena on Wednesday, CONVERGE hopes to at least continue where it left off in the last conference against a significantly retooled Terrafirma squad.
The lessons learnt from their past season have given the Converge FiberXers a renewed sense of resolve as they enter the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Despite ending in sixth place in the Governors’ Cup, the squad made an impression on many by forcing the strong San Miguel Beermen to play a decisive fifth game in their series in the quarterfinals. They were keen to make a bigger impression at the mid-season competition after their close exit.
Franco Atienza and the coaching staff were optimistic about the team’s progress since the last conference. They underlined that the FiberXers had made great progress in resolving issues that were brought to light during their Governors’ Cup campaign. To improve its cohesion and performance on the court, the team has been putting in a lot of effort in practice.
Although Converge’s performance in the Governors’ Cup demonstrated their potential, the team is concentrating on increasing consistency in order to turn that into Commissioners’ Cup success. The coaching team emphasized how crucial it was to incorporate the knowledge they had gained from their prior experience into their mid-season strategy. It is anticipated that this preparation would enable the team to perform better and compete at a higher level.
The FiberXers want to improve their performance in the Commissioner’s Cup by utilizing their momentum and growth. Converge aims to become a dominant force in the league with a team of driven players and a coaching staff dedicated to constant development. The focus is still on working as a team, playing with discipline, and using their potential to reach their objectives.
The FiberXers are excited to demonstrate their advancements and tenacity as the new conference gets underway. Their determination to make a bigger impression in this mid-season competition is demonstrated by their emphasis on fixing previous mistakes and keeping an optimistic outlook. Converge is ready to have a big impact in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with newfound confidence and a dedication to become better.
Atienza is still leery of the Dyip, though, who had a significant makeover after finishing 1-9 in the previous conference.
The Terrafirma jerseys will now be worn by some new faces, lead by Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel, who were recently acquired from SMB in exchange for top gunner Juami Tiongson and Andreas Cahilig. Raymond Tiongco has taken over as head coach.
After their recent signing, coach Franco Atienza recognized the important contributions Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel made to Terrafirma Dyip. He underlined that the pair has a special combination of talent, expertise, and poise, all of which will surely improve the team’s performance going forward.
Romeo, one of the league’s most dynamic guards and a three-time PBA champion, has continuously shown that he can generate scoring opportunities under duress. His arrival to Terrafirma adds leadership in dire situations in addition to offensive firepower. Manuel, on the other hand, is a stabilizing factor in both offense and defense due to his consistent inside presence and versatility as a forward. He is an invaluable member of any team due to his shown ability to perform well under pressure.
It is anticipated that the addition of these seasoned players will increase Terrafirma’s level of competition, particularly in close games where experience frequently makes the difference. Younger players benefit from their presence as well, as they receive direction and mentoring both on and off the court.
Atienza’s comments highlight how crucial it is to include seasoned players in order to promote development and self-assurance among the group. With Romeo and Manuel already on the team, Terrafirma Dyip hopes to change the league’s course and assemble a stronger team for the upcoming obstacles.
In addition, Dyip management selected Ryan Richards, a 6-11 British Jamaican, to man the middle as Christian Standhardinger recovers from a knee ailment that kept him out of action during the Governors Cup.
Cheick Diallo, a 28-year-old former NBA player, was chosen by Converge as a smaller import. He is only listed at 6-8, but he will undoubtedly assist to fill the spot with Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar once the latter is available to join the club next month.
