MANILA, Philippines – Kyle Negrito was thrown back into the limelight as the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season progressed, taking on the crucial role of Creamline’s main playmaker once more.

But Negrito didn’t always have it easy—as she assumed the role of a highly regarded predecessor, she encountered a storm of doubt and criticism.

Negrito’s fortitude persevered through the difficulties, leading to a pivotal event that would go down in Philippine volleyball history as a memorable occasion. She was crucial to Creamline’s incredible accomplishment of the first-ever Grand Slam in the history of the sport in the nation.

Negrito’s leadership was a ray of hope in the Invitationals, as the Cool Smashers were trailing the competition. After leading Creamline from a 1-2 set disadvantage to win their first Invitationals championship in two years, she masterminded an astounding 25 fantastic sets. Her performance, which brought her her first Finals MVP medal and the Best Setter award, was evidence of her development and persistent dedication.

Negrito discussed her journey’s lessons learned and her approach to overcoming obstacles. She stressed the value of maintaining focus and avoiding distractions from outside sources—a perspective she picked up from Coach Sherwin’s guidance. Negrito stated that her colleagues’ encouragement and support were her greatest sources of strength and that they had been essential to her journey. She used the faith and confidence her colleagues had in her to drive her to keep going and provide her best effort.

Negrito’s path was not only about personal success; it was also about returning her colleagues’ faith and confidence in her skills. She was happy that her diligence and the combined efforts of everyone around her produced favorable outcomes. Her success was largely due to her conviction that cooperation and mutual trust are important, which was strengthened by this experience.

Negrito faced many personal obstacles on his path to the Grand Slam. Her relationship with Coach Sherwin Meneses changed during the season, starting off as a complicated mixture of admiration and stress.

Negrito took a minute to express her gratitude to Meneses for his important contribution to her growth as a player after winning the Finals MVP award. She fought back tears as she gave her instructor an intensely heartfelt thank you. Negrito realized how important Meneses’ advice, tough love, and mentoring had been to her development and achievement on the court. She thought back on their journey’s highs and lows, grateful for the obstacles and encouragement that had finally brought them to success. Negrito’s championship victory represented more than simply his own accomplishment; it also represented the relationship and understanding that existed between coach and player.

Her acknowledgement of Meneses brought attention to the importance of a coach in an athlete’s career and demonstrated how respect for one another can overcome past differences and lead to success and fulfillment in achieving common goals.

The absence of important players further hindered Negrito’s journey. Injury kept Tots Carlos and Alyssa Valdez off the field, although Jema Galanza eventually joined the team owing to her Alas Pilipinas Women commitments.

Negrito’s leadership and the team’s unwavering camaraderie persisted in the face of these defeats. Even on their third try, they remained steadfast in their belief and resolve to complete the Grand Slam.

Negrito underlined her steadfast confidence, highlighting that despite the hurdles they encountered, her team’s long-standing cohesion remained their greatest asset in the conference. She admitted that while some players were no longer with the club, the core group of Creamline had been together for a long time, and this familiarity offered them a substantial edge over their opponents. Negrito pointed out that their profound connection, formed through years of playing and growing together, helped them to preserve cohesion and resilience even in adverse conditions.

According to her, the team’s ability to adjust swiftly and skillfully on the court was largely due to the trust and understanding among one another. Negrito’s perspective underscored the importance of team unity and the power that comes from having a stable, seasoned group that knows each other’s skills and weaknesses, making them formidable rivals regardless of any changes.
