Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig, in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, Choco Mucho defeated PLDT in a nail-biting match by scores of 25 to 27, 25 to 22, 18 to 25, 25 to 22, and 17 to 15 to record its second straight victory.

The High Speed Hitters reached match point at 15 to 14 as Jessey De Leon quickly scored and Elena Samoilenka blocked a shot.

However, the Flying Titans prevailed thanks to an off-the-block strike from Odina Aliyeva, Samoilenko’s wide attack, and Des Cheng’s rejection of Chin Basas.

“We emphasized the importance of working together. No matter the size of their role, I reminded my athletes, what matters is that they perform well. Oliver Almadro, coach of Choco Mucho, remarked that little things added together will produce a tremendous thing.

Samoilenko and Fiola Ceballos rained down two hits apiece to pull away and give PLDT the 2 to 1 set advantage after the team had already led by four points, 13 to 17, in the third.

With a brilliant fourth quarter, Aliyeva, however, forced Choco Mucho back into the game and extended it to a fifth and decisive set.

In addition to 26 outstanding receptions and 10 digs, the Uzbek-Azerbaijani immigrant scored 30 significant points.

Cherry Nunag scored nine points, followed by Kat Tolentino, who finished with 16 points.

The High Speed Hitters were stuck in a three-way tie with Akari and F2 Logistics, who both had 1 to 2 records, while the Flying Titans improved to 2 to 1 at that position.

Both the 14 points each from Reyes and Ceballos and the 35 points Samoilenko scored were ineffective. 23 digs and 16 outstanding receptions were also produced by Kath Arado.

On Tuesday, the same Pasig location will host another game between the two teams.

At 5:30 pm, PLDT will end its tie with the Cargo Movers while Choco Mucho will take on Chery Tiggo, a team with a record of 3 to 0.
