Rafi Reavis’ appearances in games in this conference are evidence that Magnolia has been extending its rotation in the PBA 49th Season Philippine Cup.
The 47-year-old Reavis has already appeared in four of the Hotshots’ five games despite only appearing in one Commissioner’s Cup game. Last Sunday, he played for six minutes and seven seconds and finished with four points and three rebounds in the team’s 127-94 triumph over Terrafirma.
Reavis played four minutes and one second in his only Commissioner’s Cup appearance, which took place against Phoenix on January 16.
Paradoxically, the only game Reavis has missed in this conference thus far was an out-of-town match in Zamboanga City against Phoenix.
Chito Victolero, the coach of Magnolia, stated that they are making an attempt to field the league’s oldest player since they anticipate needing Reavis in the last stretch of the Hotshots’ season.
“Rafi is always ready,” stated Victolero of Reavis, who even played for the San Juan Knights in the now-defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) in the late 1990s.
“I just try to give him some minutes para if we need him in the future.”
Reavis’ performance in the Hotshots’ 98-95 overtime victory over San Miguel on April 23 was noteworthy; he scored two points and pulled down one rebound in three minutes and fifty-two seconds. Reavis was assigned to guard eight-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo during that period.
Reavis is also shown standing and talking to his colleagues while on the bench, acting as though he were one of the team’s assistant coaches.
Reavis has remained like this ever since, according to Victolero.
On the other hand, for the club that could decide whether the Road Warriors are serious in this conference, Robert Bolick and the rest of NLEX are preparing for a difficult stretch.
Despite having a 3-1 win-loss record, the Road Warriors will be put to the test in their next three games, starting on Wednesday against Barangay Ginebra.
Additionally, NLEX faces league leaders Magnolia on Sunday and Meralco, the current champion, on May 14.
Despite their impressive start to the Philippine Cup, where they are in second place behind Magnolia, which has not lost after four games, Bolick stated that they are still cautious.
Bolick likes how NLEX is playing at the moment, especially with different players coming up over the previous games, despite the difficult schedule that lies ahead.
Bolick finished with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in their 80-72 victory over Blackwater on Friday. However, the Road Warriors also received 12 points and 8 rebounds from JB Bahio, and 10 points each from Kevin Alas and Dominick Fajardo.
According to Bolick, the team’s confidence is beginning to increase as a result of the opportunities provided by head coach Jong Uichico’s system, which places an emphasis on effective ball and player movement.
Since defeating San Miguel 98-89 in their first game on April 5, NLEX has not lost. However, Bolick claimed that the Road Warriors believed the Beermen’s superior skill was the only reason they were defeated in that match.
Prior to the Blackwater victory, NLEX defeated Rain or Shine 109-95 on April 12 and Grand Slam-searching TNT 91-74 on April 23 following the SMB loss.
