MANILA, Philippines – In the 2024–2025 PVL All-Filipino Conference, Rachel Ann Daquis continues to defy age and expectations, demonstrating that she still has what it takes to compete at the top level. Last Tuesday, in Farm Fresh’s exciting reverse sweep versus Capital1, the 37-year-old volleyball legend displayed her extraordinary abilities and leadership. Daquis put on a classic performance, scoring 19 important points and dishing out 13 outstanding digs to highlight her versatility and influence on both the offensive and defensive ends.
Daquis proved to be the stabilizing influence the young team needed in a crucial game for Farm Fresh. Her experience was most evident during the crucial times when she remained composed and led her colleagues through trying circumstances. Her match-winning kill, which concluded an incredible performance that showcased her undying skill on the court, was a fitting way to close the match.
Her efforts helped Farm Fresh finish with a franchise-best 5-6 record at the end of the preliminary round. In addition to her abilities, Daquis gave the team the much-needed seasoned leadership that enabled them to win close games. Her participation is still crucial as the Foxies try to advance further in the current PVL season in the hopes of making their maiden postseason trip.
Daquis was unanimously selected as the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week for the February 18–22 period, as given by Pilipinas Live, in recognition of her exceptional work. She surpassed leading candidates including Alyssa Valdez of Creamline, MJ Phillips of Petro Gazz, Vanie Gandler of Cignal, Isa Molde of Choco Mucho, and MVP candidate Savi Davison of PLDT, therefore it was a well-earned honor.
Rachel Ann Daquis, who is competing in her first tournament since the 2023 Invitational Conference, has adapted to playing two roles for Farm Fresh with ease. She is an important on-court performer in addition to being a seasoned leader. The former Cignal star, who has long been regarded as one of the most recognizable personalities in Philippine volleyball, has accepted her position as a coach for the youthful Foxies team. Even though she is in a phase of her career where many athletes slow down, Daquis keeps up her excellent play, motivating her teammates and having a big impact on games.
Despite having an illustrious career full of honors, Daquis is still very driven by the desire to help Farm Fresh achieve more success. Her competitive spirit is still strong, as evidenced by her latest performance in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, where she recorded a spectacular 19-point performance with 13 outstanding digs. As the team strives for its first-ever PVL title, she sets an example for her colleagues by demonstrating the value of perseverance, discipline, and hard work.
Daquis also emphasized how crucial it is for the team to keep becoming better. She noted that there is still more work to be done, even if she recognized Farm Fresh’s success this season. She believes that building the team’s character and beginning games with focus and intensity are essential. Although there is no lack of skill at Farm Fresh, she thinks that their perseverance, ability to operate as a team, and capacity for high-pressure performance will ultimately determine their level of success.
On March 4, Farm Fresh, now ranked sixth, will play No. 7 Akari in the qualifying round for one of six automatic quarterfinal positions. Since only the qualifying winners will go on to the quarterfinals, the stakes are very high. In the more difficult play-in competition, teams that lose will have a last chance to earn one of the two quarterfinal spots that are still up for grabs.
Aiming for both short-term success and long-term development as a competitive force in the PVL, Farm Fresh intends to maintain its upward trajectory and make a strong playoff push under Daquis’ leadership.
