VVV Esports completes redemption tour to win GYC Season 2

Aug 2, 2022

In order to win the second season of the Garena Youth Challengers, VVV ESPORTS lived up to their clan’s motto of “came, saw, and conquered.”

After falling to Tyrant Esports in the GYC Season 1 finals, VVV entered the competition with some unfinished business. They have more than made up for it as they redeemed themselves. With consecutive 3 to 0 scorecards, the Filipinos overcame Malaysia’s twice-to-beat advantage and swept the SEM9 twice.

VVV’s road to redemption

VVV initially gave the impression that they still were not over their GYC S1 defeat as they withstood a number of early challenges from SEM9 in two closely fought matches in Hardpoint at Summit (250 to 233) and Search and Destroy at Firing Range (7 to 6).

However, VVV turned it up in the third game of Control at Standoff, dominating SEM9 the entire match to complete the sweep and reset the grand finals bracket.

As VVV opened the floodgates early in Hardpoint at Summit 250 to 62, the third game of the first series appeared to be a sign of things to come. With relative ease, the Filipinos went on to win the match, completely overpowering the Malaysians, winning Search and Destroy at Firing Range with a score of 7 to 5, and Control at Standoff, 3 to 0, to win the match and the championship.

Demorz out, Mac in

Vince “Demorz” Salaya played in the GYC Season 2 final match for the VVV team before switching to the Mamba LowKings ahead of the Garena Masters III.

His one-year collaboration with longtime teammates Jerzen “Aeschy” Espiritu and Owen “Owen” Crisostomo would come to an end as a result. In addition to winning the CODM PH Championship 2021 back with Nifty Ultra Esports as one of their fair shares of victorious moments, the trio also collaborated with Demorz’s brother and CODM 2021 Eastern global champion Averson “Skerd” Salaya.

Demorz was replaced in the main lineup for VVV by Christopher “Mac” Macaranas, a seasoned veteran of VVV Esports. After VVV’s poor performance in Garena Masters season 2, where they failed to advance past the group stages, the former captain of BREN Esports CODM is eager to battle once again on the largest platform.

The Garena Masters III will feature action for Mac and VVV, who are prepared to prove they have what it takes to contend at the top.
