To determine who will continue to represent their region in the competition, XSET will compete against OpTic Gaming, and Fnatic will compete against FPP.
After a taxing Group Stage, the eight teams that will advance to the Playoffs at Masters Copenhagen have been selected. As teams competed to earn a spot in the competition’s next round, some unexpected victories and defeats were observed.
The following four groups advance to the playoff round:
- Guild Esports
- OpTic Gaming
- DRX
- FunPlus Phoenix
They will join the teams that were seeded:
- Fnatic
- XSET
- Paper Rex
- Leviatán Esports
Two matches between clubs from the same region will also take place in the Upper Quarterfinals. In the quarterfinal round, XSET will face fellow countrymen OpTic Gaming, while Fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix will face off to determine who will represent Europe going forward.
One of the best APAC teams, Paper Rex, will compete against Guild Esports, one of the top teams in Europe right now, in the other two quarterfinal matchups. Leviatán, the lone representative from South America, will face Korean-born DRX in their encounter.
This will be Leviathan’s first major event for VCT – the team has performed exceptionally well in the first half of the year. They barely missed the first Masters in Reykjavik when they lost to Ninjas Pyjamas in the South America Stage 1 Challengers Playoffs. This time, they come bearing with enthusiasm as the sole South America representative in Masters Copenhagen.
The first quarter-final match will be between Paper Rex and Guild Esports, set to play soon.
