What If Marvel will compete against Arcane? The competition included Rick & Morty, Bob’s Burgers, and The Simpsons.
Arcane from Netflix and League of Legends has been nominated for an Outstanding Animated Program Emmy in 2022. The series will compete against the What If…? Disney+ series from Marvel Studios in the same category. along with other long-running TV programs like The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Rick & Morty.
Particularly, Arcane’s sixth episode, When These Walls Come Tumbling Down, which also served as its Act 2 climax, received a nomination. The emotional episode will be remembered for Jinx and Vi’s reunion, which turned out to be fairly violent and fleeting. Arcane received a total of two Emmy nods with this episode, including Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.
The series also competes against Barry, Cobra Kai, Love Death + Robots, Ted Lasso, and What We Do In The Shadows in the Outstanding Sound Editing Category, which emphasizes music, foley speech, and sound design. Arcane’s astronomical popularity upon debut compared to the other nominations makes it difficult to conceive that it won’t take home a prize for Outstanding Animated Program, even if this category is far more divisive.
The Arcane crew is genuinely thrilled about the two nominations, as would be expected:
In a tweet from Arcane’s official twitter page:

@arcaneshow
“Tremendously humbled to be amongst the nominated for @RiotGames’ first #Emmys,
including Outstanding Animated Program for Arcane.
Thank you to the @TelevisionAcad for this honor. ✨”
Christian Linke, the executive producer and co-creator of Arcane, reportedly commented as follows:
“It’s hard to put into words what it means to be nominated alongside such a fantastic group of creators and projects. The six year journey to Arcane wouldn’t have been possible without the 400+ professionals who gave it their heart; our colleagues at Riot and their incredible passion for these League of Legends characters, our friends at Fortiche and their top-notch animation, our partners at Netflix and their support and belief in our story, the voice actors who have breathed life into our characters across a multitude of languages, our fantastic writers, producers, external vendors, musicians, sound & VO studios, and so many more…and of course, our League players who have invested in our world, our champions, and our stories for years…this is, and always has been, for you.”
Arcane is only beginning. The show has already received a second season renewal, and Riot Games is making significant investments in Fortiche Production, the show’s animation studio, for next endeavors.
