With this assemblable Lego Atari 2600 set, which comes with a working joystick and game cartridges, you can travel back in time to the 1980s.

Atari 2600 (10306) is a new adult-sized Lego kit that captures all the intricate elements of the legendary gaming console, including multiple game cartridges and a joystick. It even has a hidden scenario that emerges from the reproduction console to show a 1980s living room with a child playing Asteroids in front of a large box TV.

The announcement tweet is as follows:

In a tweet from LEGO’s official twitter page:

This set comes with a reproduction Atari 2600 console that is almost 3 inches (8 cm) high, 12 inches (33 cm) wide, and 8.5 inches (22 cm) deep once it has been built. Along with three buildable scenarios for each game, it includes three of the most played game cartridges for the console: Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede. It goes without saying that you cannot play these games on a console, but you may simulate them here.

It’s important to note that this Lego set is intended for adults, so construction will definitely take a while. For this one, you might want to block off a few afternoons. The buildable scene that was inspired by Adventure actually has an easter egg in it, which itself pays homage to Adventure being one of the very first video games to ever have an easter egg. The three game cartridges can actually be inserted into the console similarly to how they were in the original.

A boxy TV, boom box, movie posters, and other relics of 1980s American nostalgia are displayed in a hidden 1980s setting that may be revealed or concealed for a more realistic appearance. Similar to the previous console, the front of this one has working switches and a joystick that can be moved. Overall, there are 2532 pieces, one of which is a little cat to fit the 1980s atmosphere.

Starting on August 1, 2022, the Lego Atari 2600 set will be available for $239.99 at suggested retail. With this and Lego’s Nintendo Entertainment System kit, it appears that the business is having success building replicas of classic video game systems out of LEGOs. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll have a PlayStation console.
