Bangladesh Women would be facing a tough challenge as they take on South Africa Women in the 2nd game of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. Bangladesh Women have lost both their warm up games and they don’t look confident right now. South African Women have also lost both their warm up games but they are a very strong side.
Bangladesh has had an awful record playing outside the subcontinent. They have won just 5 games in these conditions and their batters have mostly struggled on fast wickets. The South African side would enjoy these conditions. They have come into this tournament in tremendous form and shall look to carry it forward.
TEAMS PREVIEW
BANGLADESH WOMEN PREVIEW
Nigar Sultana would want her side to put the upsets of the warmup games behind. In both games, their batters struggled especially the middle and lower-middle order. The side has had a poor record on green wickets and they will need to play out of their skins to do well and win this game.
Shamima Sultana and Sharmin Akhter have to bat well at the top as the side would need a good start in this game. The middle-order has looked in poor shape and the side would need Fargana Hoque, Nigar Sultana, and Rumana Ahmed to add runs in this game. Ritu Moni will need to do the hitting down the order and take the side to a good total.
Jahanara Alam and Suraiya Azim must bowl well with the new ball as the South Africans have good firepower at the top. Ritu Moni and Nahida Akter will have to make good use of their variations as the wicket won’t offer them much support. Fariha Trisna and Rumana Ahmed add to the side’s bowling strengths.
SOUTH AFRICA WOMEN PREVIEW
Sune Luus’ side would look for a strong start to the tournament. In both their warm up games several of their weaknesses were exposed both with the bat and the ball. However, they are up against a relatively weak opponent. Luus would look to make use of this opportunity and earn their first points for the tournament.
Laura Wolvaardt has looked in good form and she would look to set up a big stand opening with Tazmin Brits. Luss has also done well with the bat, and she would look to set up partnerships with Mignon du Preez and Lara Goodall. Down the order, the side would expect to see big hits from Chloe Tryon and Trisha Chetty.
Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp will enjoy these conditions and they would look to make inroads into Bangladeshi batting. Ayabonga Khaka is in good form and the side would expect a good show from her. Masabata Klass, Luus, and Tryon add depth to their bowling and make it a strong attack.
MATCH DETAILS:
Match: Bangladesh vs South Africa ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, Match 2
Venue: University Oval, Dunedin
Date & Time: March 5th, 11:00 AM LOCAL and 3:30 AM IST.
PITCH REPORT
The University Oval in Dunedin is a bit tricky where the surface is expected to be low and slow and the weather conditions could also make a huge impact. The average first innings score here when it comes to One Day Internationals is 242. In the last 13 ODIs that have been played at this venue, the teams batting second have gone on to win eight of them.
While the teams often look to bat first after winning the toss in New Zealand, it could be different in this contest as the captain who calls it right at the toss would prefer chasing since it is a batting paradise and a run-fest could well be on the cards.
BAN-W VS SA-W MATCH TOSS PREDICTION
The conditions would favor the fielding sides during this match but there should not be any advantage in batting first. We predict that both skippers will choose to field first.
WEATHER REPORT
Cloudy conditions throughout the game in Dunedin. Expect the sun to poke through on occasions with the temperature going no higher than 18 degrees.
BAN-W VS SA-W
WINNING PREDICTION
Bangladesh Women have a mountainous task at hand. Their record in these conditions has been poor. The side would need a great show from their batters to put up a stiff challenge against the South Africans. South Africa Women have a strong batting line-up and they have done well in this format in the recent past. This would make them outright favorites to win this game.
South Africa Women to win.
