The Qualifier of the Big Bash League will see the Perth Scorchers lock horns with the Sydney Sixers at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday, January 22nd.
The Scorchers have been the most dominant side in the tournament. They finished as table-toppers at the end of the group stage, winning 11 of their 14 games. They have played some scintillating cricket throughout the tournament and have dominated most of the sides in the league.
Having won three of their last five league matches, they ended the group stage on a high and will carry the momentum into the knockout stage. The return of Colin Munro and Mitchell Marsh would make them an even more formidable side than they are currently. Considering the form they are in and the damage that they have done throughout the season, they are the front-runners to win the title this season.
Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers have also played some quality cricket throughout the tournament. They have been one of the most consistent bowling sides in the ongoing edition of the BBL.They have won nine of their 14 games so far and finished second in the points table. Having picked up three victories from their last five fixtures, they will look to carry their confidence and momentum into the knockout stage.
The Sixers enter the knockout stage with the dream of becoming the first side in BBL history to win three back-to-back titles. The form of Josh Phillippe, Daniel Hughes and Moises Henriques with the bat will inspire confidence among fans. Hayden Kerr, Ben Dwarshuis and Sean Abbot, meanwhile, have been incredible with the ball .
PER VS SYD TEAM PREVIEWS
PERTH SCORCHERS
Perth Scorchers won their match against the Brisbane Heat very comfortably and ensured that all of their players were in good touch. It really was the ideal result for them heading into this match. The return of Mitchell Marsh is the biggest positive for the Perth Scorchers. He is in the form of his life and has scored runs almost every single time he has played in this edition of the Big Bash.
Marsh is not the only player in form for the Scorchers. Kurtis Patterson, Colin Munro, Ashton Turner, and even Ashton Agar are all striking the ball beautifully. The depth and power in this batting lineup are difficult to match. We would recommend betting on the Perth Scorchers to hit the most sixes in this match.
Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, and Peter Hatzglou are going to be an integral part of the bowling attack. We think Ashton Agar may come in for a bit of tap since his bowling style should suit some of the Sixers batting but overall, the Perth Scorchers are very well stocked in this department as well.
SYDNEY SIXERS
The Sydney Sixers are not used to entering a contest as the underdogs. They are the two-time defending champions and their lineup is capable of beating any team on most days. Despite this, we think they will have to extend themselves and be at their absolute best against the Perth Scorchers.
Moises Henriques, Josh Philippe, and Daniel Hughes seem to be the players that are in the best batting form at the moment. Young Jack Edwards could be one player that you bet against in this match since it is a bit much to expect him to score freely against an all-international bowling lineup.
Dan Christian and Justin Avendano are going to add depth to the lineup that seems to have moved past Jordan Silk for this tournament. The batting is certainly strong but we don’t think it is as powerful or deep as the Perth Scorchers batting lineup.
Hayden Kerr has been a real find for the Sydney Sixers this season. He is the leading wicket-taker of the season for the Sixers and is able to contribute in most matches. With Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshius, and Steve O’Keefe also in the playing eleven, the Sixers will believe they can keep the Perth Scorchers batting under check.

PERTH SCORCHERS VS SYDNEY SIXERS, QUALIFIER MATCH PREDICTION
The Scorchers, much like the Sixers, have played some terrific cricket this season. However, Sydney have been in the knockout stages before and have some experienced shoulders amongst their ranks. This makes them marginal favorites to finish on top in this encounter.
But Perth boast a quality side and will fight tooth and nail to win this encounter.
