After a match-winning knock against Mumbai Indians that transpired in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 tie, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) talisman MS Dhoni’s name is back on everyone’s lips. The former Indian captain is showing everyone why he is regarded as the ultimate finisher in the tournament, with his obviously tremendous performance in this year’s IPL. And no less than ex-India all-rounder Irfan Pathan thinks that Dhoni is the face of the league.  On the Cricket Live show on Star Sports, Pathan expressed his admiration for Dhoni: “MS Dhoni is the greatest finisher in the history of IPL. Year after year, someone else has been joining this list but no one has been able to displace Dhoni. He is the identity of this league, its true ambassador.” The Chennai Super Kings needed 17 off the last over to script a difficult win in the recent IPL 2022 tie against Mumbai Indians. It all went down to 16 off 4 balls, which Dhoni finished with aplomb with sequences of 6, 10, 2 and 4. It’s also a reminder that even though Dhoni is close to celebrating his 41st birthday, his reflexes are still in top shape. Pathan added: “MSD and AB de Villiers have been the biggest finishers in the history of IPL, but Dhoni is at the forefront of it. He is the greatest.”  The match between CSK and Punjab Kings in Match 38 of IPL 2022, happening at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, plays a crucial role in the teams’ future in the IPL. Placing ninth with four points, the CSK, under Ravindra Jadeja, can still keep their play-off chances alive, no matter how slender. Meanwhile, the PBKS, under Mayank Agarwal, are placed a place above with six points. They also need a win to get the chance to enter the play-offs. So it will be an interesting Monday given that both teams really need to win this match.  Despite languishing in the IPL 2022 points table, Pathan still claims that no team can still take CSK lightly since the defending champions know how to turn things around even in the worst of situations. “No team can make the mistake of underestimating CSK. This is a team which knows how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat,” he added. Pathan has total faith in Dhani to deliver the goods against PBKS on Monday. “If we talk about this season, it is pertinent to mention the names of Rahul Tewatia, Dinesh Karthik, Shimron Hetmyer because they have been finishing the games continuously for their teams. But when it comes to the ultimate finisher, obviously only one name will come to mind and that is Dhoni’s,” he said.
