Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Rahul Tripathi garnered much praise from former England player Graeme Swann, saying that the Maharashtra batter has been amazing to watch. Tripathi started his first game this new season with a duck against Rajasthan Royals. He has scored 228 runs in eight innings, striking at 174.05. This cemented his third place for the Orange Army.  He also smashed 71 off 37 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders – his former team – to steer the Sunrisers Hyderabad into a 176-run chase with 13 balls remaining. On Wednesday, he hammered Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami for a six, over extra-cover. This was followed by a couple of boundaries before being pinned in front of the stumps for leg before wicket. Swann’s praise for Tripathi’s talents were indeed lavish. He spoke to Sunrisers Hyderabad batting coach Brian Lara about it.  In a talk with Cricket.com, Swann said: “He (Rahul Tripathi) has been brilliant. I spoke to Brian Lara the other day and he said, ‘This guy, Tripathi, how good is he?’ When Lara is your coach and he says check this dude out, you’ve got to look closer. He’s been amazing to watch.” “We’ve always known his talent and has the ability to be the best three batsmen in the IPL and he’s doing that this year. It’s great to watch,” he added. In IPL 2021, Tripathi scored 397 runs in 16 innings for Kolkata Knight Riders, mostly batting at the no. 3 position. He was also slotted at No. 4 several times. According to former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, Tripathi’s batting in a fixed position in IPL 2022 is an advantage. “The energy that he shows in the IPL games, he does exactly that in domestic games as well for Maharashtra. He plays exactly the same way he plays in the IPL. That’s the reason I feel it is not in alien condition for any uncapped player if you’re playing at the same intensity in both, domestic games and IPL. You are at ease,” Parthiv said in a chat with Cricbuzz. “We’re seeing Tripathi succeeding. Also, playing at different positions as well (makes a difference). KKR used him at opening, 3, 4, 5, and everywhere. Here, he has got a fixed number. I think that is the reason why he is doing really well,” he added. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s next match against Chennai Super Kings will happen on May 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
