English Cricket is certainly soaring to new heights, at least it appears so after their recent run across the formats. It’s been a while since they played the shortest version of the game, but their performances in the ODIs and the Tests of late have been nothing short of brilliant. They were remarkable in their home series against New Zealand in the red-ball format and then started their ODI campaign with a bang in an away series against the Netherlands.
England and Netherlands are set to continue on their journey in the three-match ODI series with the second match to be played on 19th June 2022. The first match was a ruthless display of hitting by English batsmen and we could all see something similar happen again. On the flipside, England is also vulnerable to upsets as seen in the past. Regardless of what happens, we are in for an entertaining day. The match between the two sides is to be played at the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen.

Even though the Netherlands lost the first game of the series by a massive margin, they would want to believe that there wasn’t a lot that they did wrong. It was just a fantastic round of power-hitting by two of the world’s most fearsome white-ball batsmen and the Netherlands just happened to be on the receiving end.
Despite the carnage that they dealt with, the Netherlands had a good number of positives to take from that game. They batted pretty well in their chase to score a good total when seen in isolation. Also, their bowlers did well early on in the powerplay as they kept English openers under pressure for a while and picked up the prize wicket of Jason Roy.
On paper, the Netherlands have a lot of talented players missing, who could not join the side as they were occupied by county commitments. We still saw a spirited effort from the likes of Sealer, Tom Cooper, Scott Edwards, Max O’Dowd, and Logan van Beek to help their side avoid a defeat that could have been even more embarrassing.
We don’t expect the Netherlands to make too many changes to their playing eleven. If anything, we might see Phillipe Boissevain sit out for Tim Bringle in this upcoming match. Regardless, the Netherlands will have to play out of their skins here, especially with the ball, and if they can do that, they will be in business big time.
ENGLAND
What would you follow that performance with? Surely, England would be aiming to score a total of 500 in this upcoming match if they bat first. Having said that, it is certainly not going to be easy, even for a batting lineup of England’s caliber. England is coming off an absolute carnage of a win in their first match and will be brimming with confidence coming into this upcoming one.
It was all about their batting in the first match as three of their batsmen slammed a hundred each, each hundred coming in at a different pace. Towards the end of their innings, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone played even better than some would fare at stick cricket.
Yes, it was an excellent surface to bat on with boundaries not so big on either side, but scoring 498 runs was certainly a colossal effort. England did that despite losing Jason Roy early in the innings and then not going at an insane run-rate for most of their innings. It was the last 20 overs of their innings when Liam Livingstone and Jos Buttler went berserk and got a record total for their side.
The bowlers then had all the runs to play with and they did well to keep the Netherlands well below 300, providing them with a massive win. England has been a force to reckon with in limited-overs cricket recently and their on-paper combination shows why they have been a force. They have some of the best exponents of limited-overs cricket with Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and Dawid Malan available.
On paper, England has a strong side that would want to better their last match’s performance, even though that seems to be a near-impossible task to do after the standards they have set. Having said that, if their power-hitters can repeat the same feat, we might be in for another day of swashbuckling displays of batting.

With the kind of form, he is in at the moment, he is expected to put on a show yet again with the bat.
