This year’s CPL matches will kick off at the end of August and for the first time, a women’s tournament is going to be featured, as confirmed by the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Cricket West Indies (CWI).  Three franchise teams will compete for the first Women’s CPL title, spearheaded by the best women players from across the Caribbean and overseas stars. The women’s tournament will commence during the men’s event within the CPL 2022 tournament window, which will happen from August 30 to September 30. The inaugural WCPL will feature the Barbados Royals, Guyana 344Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders. The CPL 2022 tournament will enter its 10th season, fresh from the success of CPL 2021. It’s expected that there will be more than half a billion viewers who will tune in for the second successive year.  CWI President Ricky Skerritt said: “Increasing the opportunities for West Indian women and girls to get involved in cricket is one of CWI’s strategic priorities, and we are delighted that we have been able to partner with CPL to further the expansion plans that we had first unveiled in 2019 prior to the arrival of the Covid Pandemic.  “We are confident that all CPL women’s games will be highly competitive and will add quality entertainment to our fans in the region and around the world,” he added. There will be more countries that will get to see the CPL games this year. Three Caribbean countries were selected for the group stages and a fourth venue set to host the finals. The league is anticipating that this four-venue structure may become the standard for future seasons.  CWI has confirmed that it’s ensuring the availability of all selected West Indies players for this year’s CPL tournaments for both Men’s and Women’s teams by making time in its very hectic international schedule. This year’s CPL will see current champions St Kitts & Nevis Patriots defending their titles. CPL 2021 was the maiden league title for the Patriots.
