It was a thrilling game that went down at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, which saw all-round Gujarat Titans overcoming fellow IPL newcomers Lucknow SuperGiants by five wickets. Gujarat brought down a 159-run target with two balls to spare, which the team accomplished with the help of Rahul Tewatia 40*, Matthew Wade 30, Hardik Pandya 33, and David Miller 30. At one point, Lucknow got into trouble at 29/4 but were boosted by Deepak Hooda (55) and youngster Ayush Badoni, who scored an impressive 54 on his debut. But Mohammad Shami was on fire for the Gujarat Titans, stunning the game with his opening spell which produced three wickets. It was enough to leave Lucknow in shambles. The Titans actually started poorly, with Dushmantha Chameera removing Shubman Gill in the opening over while chasing 159. Chameera gave an outside off stump delivery, which was stepped down to loft on the off-side by Gill. It got off from the bat’s bottom and soared high into the air, which was caught in a well-timed manner by Hooda. Chameera struck again on his second over, which resulted in the removal of Vijay Shankar. Sri Lankan spinner Vijay Shankar, with a yorker on off stump at 145 KPH, put his bat down late and got the bottom edge, rattling the stumps. The Titans’ score was 44/2 after the first six overs, with Matthew Wade and Hardik Pandya on the crease. Both batters began to rebuild their lineups as the runs for Gujarat continued to pile up.  In the 11th over, Krunal Pandya removed his brother Hardik as the partnership of the Gujarat batters became stronger. Krunal bowled on the middle stump as Hardik swung but failed to get it on the middle of the bat. The ball soared high in the air to long-off, which resulted in a safe catch by Manish Pandey. The next over saw Deepak Hooda clean bowling Matthew Wade. The Australian hitter got low for the sweep as the stumps were shaken, and he failed to get a bat on the ball. The Gujarat batsmen swung the momentum to their side after Rahul Tewatia joined David Miller at the crease and they smashed a total of 39 runs in the 16th and 17th overs. David Miller was withdrawn in the 18th over with 29 runs needed off the remaining three overs, but he returned after getting 30 points in 21 balls. Rahul Tewatia and Abhinav Manohar scored 9 runs in the last over, which  required 11 runs in the final six balls of the match. Debutant Abhinav Manohar hammered Avesh for two consecutive fours in the first two balls of the final over, eliminating any chances of a last-ball drama. Tewatia capped everything off by scoring the winning runs for the Gujarat-based debutants.
