The Test series between South Africa and India was enthralling and one where the hosts staged a remarkable comeback to win 2-1. India went into the series as the favorites and will be the favorites once more before the start of the ODI’s.
South Africa is going to be at full strength and while its recent record in this format may not be the best, we think it has the building blocks of a very strong lineup. India’s new ODI captain will be unavailable because of injury and so KL Rahul will be leading once more. Will the team be able to perform to its potential or will there be growing pains under the new regime? The cricket betting sites are giving India the stage of favorites but we think there are some great betting opportunities in this match.

RSA VS IND TEAM PREVIEWS
SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa has not played ODI cricket for quite some time. Its last ODI series at home was against Pakistan and it ended up losing that 2-1. It also lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka last year and lost an ODI to Ireland in Ireland.
Despite that, we think it is being underestimated when it plays at home against India.
South Africa is going to have Quinton de Kock back for this series and he immediately adds a lot of power to the South African batting lineup. He is likely to open the batting with Janneman Malan, an excellent ODI batsman with a penchant for scoring hundreds. We rate Malan very highly and he is one player that you can definitely look to bet on in this match.
Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and David Miller are all a part of the squad and should all find a place in the playing eleven. This is a serious batting lineup with a lot of power and a fair bit of confidence coming into this match.
South Africa will decide what kind of balance it prefers in the team and make some tough choices. They have to choose between playing one spinner or two and choosing between Shamsi or Maharaj is not going to be easy.
They also have to pick one or two all-rounders for the team with Dwaine Pretorius and Andile Phehlukwayo both available for selection. Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi should all make it into the playing eleven giving South Africa a very decent bowling attack.
This is not a team that you want to be taking lightly and to be able to get them for better than 2x returns could be a great betting opportunity.
INDIA
India has seen quite a bit of turmoil behind the scenes in recent times. It performed badly in the T20 World Cup and lost Virat Kohli as the captain of the white-ball formats. It has now lost him as the captain of the Test team and with a new coach, an interim ODI captain, and rumors about unrest swirling, the team is going to be under pressure even before stepping onto the field.
India has been one of the best ODI sides in the world for quite some time and that is why it will still have a very strong team even without Rohit Sharma or Hardik Panday in the team.
KL Rahul is going to lead and will open the batting. He will have the option of choosing between Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad for this match. We think Dhawan should be the one that gets a go because of his seniority and experience. Virat Kohli will bet at number three. Two out of Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav will play in the ODI side and this is again a tough call. Number six seems to be set for Rishabh Pant followed by Venkatesh Iyer as the all-rounder at number seven.
This gives India a lot of batting depth and a fair amount of power. However, there are a number of players that are returning after a long layoff or are playing in positions that they are not normally used to. A couple of early wickets could really pile on the pressure.
The bowling lineup should include three pacers and a spinner. Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur could be the three fast-bowlers with Yuzvendra Chahal as the leggie.
The Indian team is under a rebuilding stage and performances from the IPL may not necessarily translate to the big stage. It is also going to take some time for the new captain to find his feet. The tag of favorites could sit quite heavily on India’s shoulders.
