Afghanistan is going to be without Mohammad Nabi and Naveen ul Haq for this series. While Nabi has chosen not to play and make way for youngsters to gain some experience, Naveen ul Haq is going to be focussing on the 20 over format. His loss is perhaps bigger for Afghanistan since their fast-bowling resources are a bit bare.
Still, Afghanistan has some very good players in its team to rely on. Rahmanullah Gurbaz will open the batting and look to provide the impetus up front. The batting unit will also featureNajibullah Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Usman Ghani. Afghanistan has a lot of experience but the bulk of the runs will have to be scored by Shahidi and Shah.
This is not a very secure batting order by any means and we always worry that a collapse is around the corner.
Afghanistan does have some good all-round batting talent in Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan.
The batting is not Afghanistan’s strong point, though. It is bowling. This is where Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Qais Ahmad will form a spin-trio that is very tough to face. The fast bowling is not the greatest but Gulbadin Naib and possibly Yamin AHmedzai are not the worst either.
NETHERLANDS
The Netherlands would have been quite disappointed at their performance in the T20 World Cup just a few months ago. That was the format in which the Netherlands had impressed over the past few years and also the format in which it plays most of its cricket. Moving to the 50 over format can be a bit tricky, however, don’t count out the team just yet.
There are more than a couple of players that are capable of influencing the match decisively.Bas de Leede is one of the best batsmen to have come out of the Netherlands in recent years. He is going to be supported by Colin Ackerman (a veteran on the county circuit) and Pieter Seelaar, who is one of the most experienced associate players going around.
The problem is in the depth of the batting lineup as you cannot hope for just a couple of players to score the runs every single time. Some of the youngsters will have to step up big time.
Fred Klaassen will lead the bowling attack. He is an excellent left-arm fast bowler who gets the ball to swing early and can trouble the Afghanistan batting. Brandon Glover, Colin Ackerman, and Vivian Kingma are some of the other bowlers that should help constitute the attack in the first match.
