MANILA, Philippines – RR Pogoy of TNT Tropang Giga accomplished a major career milestone during their quarterfinal win over the Magnolia Hotshots (80–79) by becoming the latest member of the PBA’s esteemed 5,000-point club. Pogoy, who is widely regarded as one of the league’s most reliable and esteemed two-way guards, reached the milestone with a three-pointer from the left wing towards the end of the first quarter. His list of accomplishments continues to grow.
Once again demonstrating his worth to a TNT side currently in the middle of the 2025 Philippine Cup semifinals, Pogoy concluded the game with a team-high 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Halftime of Game 1 of the semifinals between TNT and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters was when the PBA recognized the milestone. Rain or Shine governor Atty. Mamerto Mondragon, league chairman Ricky Vargas, commissioner Willie Marcial, and Pogoy were all honored with plaques to commemorate the event.
Pogoy broke the 5,000-point barrier, becoming the 96th Filipino and the 101st player in league history to do so, according to PBA head statistician Fidel Mangonon III. Also joining him in this exclusive club are Glenn Capacio, Vic Pablo, Jimmy Alapag, Ranidel de Ocampo, Jayson Castro, and Kelly Williams; he becomes the fifteenth active player to do it and the seventh in TNT franchise history.
Pogoy has become an integral part of the Tropang Giga after being chosen in the 2016 PBA special draft. He has maintained a point average of about 18.9 per game since the 2022 Philippine Cup. Pogoy has become one of the league’s most dependable offensive weapons thanks to his reputation for perimeter shooting, powerful slashing skills, and poise in big moments.
The influence of this player extends far beyond the sporting arena. Like in his game against Magnolia, Pogoy has been a reliable contributor offensively and defensively, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists. He scored a career-high 28 points in Game 1 of the playoffs against Rain or Shine, with 13 of those points coming in the fourth quarter that sealed TNT’s 98-91 victory.
TNT’s ability to cultivate top local talent and maintain consistent success is mirrored in Pogoy’s accomplishment. With the support of one of the most consistent organizations in the league, Pogoy has had the opportunity to step up and become a leader, which has been particularly helpful while Jayson Castro and Mikey Williams are out with injuries. Despite roster issues, his leadership and scoring prowess have kept TNT competitive.
The team’s quest reaches a pivotal point with the achievement of this milestone. Thanks to Pogoy’s sagacity, maturity, and experience, TNT is hoping to make it back to the Philippine Cup Finals and maybe pull off an unprecedented Grand Slam season. As the squad fights Rain or Shine, Pogoy will be counted on to lead the offense, guide the younger players, and provide defensive tenacity.
According to experts, Pogoy’s 5,000-point club membership is more than simply a personal accomplishment; it may potentially kickstart TNT’s title defense. Pogoy was an integral part of the team’s first-game victory and was among the top scorers going into the semifinals. His leadership, playoff poise, and shot-creation skill under duress are intangible advantages that his seasoned presence gives, but they become much more important in long series.
Pogoy is among the best PBA guards statistically, ranking first in scoring averages, shooting percentages, and clutch performance measures. He has established himself as a two-way danger, leading the league in field goal attempts from beyond the arc, and he is frequently assigned the chore of guarding the top perimeter players on the other team.
With the semifinals already underway, TNT will keep counting on Pogoy’s reliable hand. Given Heading’s injury and Castro’s ongoing recovery, Pogoy has taken the lead and scored more goals than anybody else. According to early predictions, TNT has a 65–70% chance of making it to the finals if he keeps up his present performance level, which is an average of 18–22 points per game.
While the achievement is certainly noteworthy on an individual level, it is indicative of Pogoy’s perseverance, work ethic, and overall professional success.
