In an interview, Ian Sangalang insists he can calm Calvin Abueva down.
Ian Sangalang, who has known Calvin Abueva for a long time, believes his bosom buddy will eventually calm down and return to his right mind.
Ian Sangalang on Calvin Abueva
While ‘The Beast’ is portrayed as an enigma, Sangalang believes his fellow Cabalen’s best quality is his willingness to listen.
“Madali namang sabihan si Calvin, e. Nakikinig naman siya,” said the Magnolia big man after the Hotshots’ 89 – 84 victory over long-time rival Barangay Ginebra on Father’s Day at the Mall of Asia Arena. [It’s easy to talk to Calvin, e. He’s one who listens.]
Abueva was ejected in the final period for his second technical foul after appearing to intentionally bump Ginebra guard Nards Pinto.
On his way out of the playing court, he was seen responding to Barangay Ginebra fans’ taunts.
He hurriedly left the venue after dressing in the dugout without waiting for the outcome of the crucial game.
Sangalang agreed with Magnolia coach Chito Victolero that Abueva was frustrated with how the game’s breaks didn’t go his way.
“Hindi rin naman niya gusto yung nangyari,” said the 6-foot-7 Sangalang of his fellow Pinatubo trio. [He also didn’t like what happened]
After witnessing how the misunderstood forward changed his ways after joining the Purefoods franchise, the Magnolia big man believes he can handle the situation for Abueva.
“Nakita naman namin kung paano siya nagbago dito sa team, kasi never na siyang nawala, never na siyang nag-absent. Kaya naniniwala ako kaya kong i-handle si Calvin,” he said. [We saw how he changed here in the team, because he never disappeared, he never was absent. So I believe I can handle Calvin]
Sangalang intends to call Abueva after he returns home, or possibly the next day.
