It was discovered that Larry Muyang is still bound by a contract with PBA ballclub Phoenix, while playing for the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the MPBL this season.
Muyang has already played two games with the Giant Lanterns, including a 35-point performance against Manila on Thursday, the day before the Fuelmasters played Terrafirma to start their PBA Philippine Cup campaign.
However, a Phoenix representative clarified that Muyang is still bound by his contract with the Fuelmasters through May 31 and has not been released. The 29-year-old is presently listed as injured or reserved on the Phoenix roster.
Regarding their seventh overall pick in the 2020 draft, Phoenix club manager Paolo Bugia informed the press, “He made his decision to do that. Kami, we just want to move forward. Ayaw namin ng distractions so we let the PBA handle it.”
According to Bugia, the PBA has received a letter explaining the circumstances.
“He made a decision. He wanted to play elsewhere. We had our hands full. We want to focus. We don’t want any distractions. We will leave it to the PBA,” Bugia said.
According to Bugia, the 6-foot-6 Muyang quit the squad when Phoenix found out that he had participated in a “ligang labas” without their consent.
“Last March, he played in an unsanctioned game. We penalized him and then he made his decision,” Bugia mentioned. “Internally, the team penalized him, and then he made a decision to go there. We just wanted to move forward.”
Muyang averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per game while playing for the Fuelmasters in eight of the most recent Commissioner’s Cup games.
While on the other hand, in preparation for Meralco’s upcoming match in the PBA 50th anniversary celebration, BONG Quinto led the Bolts to their second consecutive Philippine Cup victory on Sunday night, defeating Terrafirma 118-80.
To start the breakaway that resulted in the Bolts’ second consecutive victory in three days, the seasoned guard scored seven of his 13 points in the first quarter.
The league’s April 9 anniversary games at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, where the reigning champions will play the San Miguel Beermen, will present the biggest test three days later.
Quinto is excited for the Beermen and Bolts to don their respective vintage jerseys in honor of the PBA’s golden anniversary.
“Sobrang saya na magkaroon kami ng opportunity na makapaglaro, tapos ‘yung jersey nga namin retro. Hindi lahat nabibigyan ng ganoong pagkakataon na makapaglaro sa ganoong sitwasyon,” Quinto added three rebounds and five assists in the franchise’s greatest victory ever.
According to coach Luigi Trillo, the team has already seen the classic jersey that will be worn during the match against SMB, along with the coaching staff’s clothes.
Prior to the PBA, San Miguel and Meralco were rivals in the old Manila Industrial Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA). The Beermen were among the ten pioneer teams in Asia’s first play-for-pay league when it officially started in 1975.
After purchasing the Sta., Meralco joined the bandwagon in 2010. Lucia franchise.
