LOS ANGELES, California – At Dallas’ American Airlines Center, Steph Curry scored a game-high 20 points to help the Warriors defeat the Mavericks 127-125 and secure just their ninth road victory of the year.
On March 22, the Golden State Warriors improved their chances of securing an automatic playoff berth by defeating the Dallas Mavericks on the road. Ja Morant also made a successful comeback for the Memphis Grizzlies after serving his suspension.
At Dallas’ American Airlines Center, Steph Curry scored a game-high 20 points to help the Warriors defeat the Mavericks 127-125 and secure just their ninth road victory of the year.
The lead changed hands 14 times during the back-and-forth contest before Curry’s outstanding layup gave Golden State a 125-122 advantage with 8.5 seconds left.
Before Reggie Bullock’s three-pointer at the buzzer cut the score to two points, Kevon Looney made a pair of free throws to seal the victory.
The primary talking point, though, was a peculiar incident that occurred in the third quarter when Dallas entered the court after a stoppage and set up on the incorrect side of the court.
This gave Golden State the opportunity to slam the ball uncontested into the Mavs basket for a two-point gift.
After a recent game, Steve Kerr, the coach of the Warriors, jokingly commented on a play where his team got organized and caused confusion for the opposing team. Kerr said, “It was great work the way we got organized and confused them.” He went on to explain that he was momentarily confused when he saw the opposing team at the other end of the court with the ball, thinking, “Wait, isn’t this our basket?”
Curry, one of six Warriors players to reach double digits, finished with 20 points, 13 assists, and five rebounds.
Golden State’s record improved with the victory, moving them up to 38-36, good for sixth place in the Western Conference and a postseason bye.
With less than three weeks left in the regular season, the loss places the Mavs in ninth place and puts them at risk of missing the playoffs entirely.
Morant returns to form
Memphis defeated the Houston Rockets 130-125 on Wednesday to maintain its position as the second-place team in the Western Conference.
Taylor Jenkins, the head coach of the Grizzlies, decided to start superstar Morant off the bench.
Since posting a video of himself brandishing a firearm in a Colorado strip club on March 4, Morant had not participated in any games.
After that, the league suspended him for eight games for acting in a way that hurt the NBA.
However, Morant showed little sign of fatigue throughout his 23 minutes, 47 seconds of action on Wednesday, finishing with 17 points, four rebounds, and five assists.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers triumphed 116-91 in Chicago to get revenge for their loss to the Bulls on Monday.
However, the Sixers’ relief at the victory was tempered by the fact that Joel Embiid had to leave the game with a calf strain after the first half with Philadelphia leading 76-48.
However, the Sixers downplayed worries of a major injury and stated that Embiid is anticipated to play against Golden State on Friday.
