MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beer’s Don Trollano has an extra weapon that can replace the main guns if necessary, in addition to being able to complement them.
This was demonstrated in full as he led the reigning champion Beermen to victory in Games 3 and 4 of the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup semifinal series against Rain or Shine, including two 20-point performances.
In the third game at Dasmarinas, Alpha Beerman June Mar Fajardo was kept to a “low” 11 points and 11 rebounds. Trollano then went into overdrive offensively, hitting 9 of 15 from the field, collecting 11 rebounds, and dishing out four assists to help SMB take the lead with a 117-107 victory.
“I think I need to step up and andun lang siguro ako sa perfect place and perfect time,” stated the 32-year-old former Adamson star. “Rain or Shine did a good job defending June Mar.”
In the next game back in Metro Manila, Trollano scored the same amount of points as he had in Game 3, and he showed off his heroics by scoring nine points in a row early in the fourth, which ignited SMB’s furious comeback from a deficit of up to 19 points on way to a 107-100 victory.
In the decisive 32-13 victory that gave the Beermen the opportunity to defeat ROS and get a rematch in the main conference, the 6-foot-3 Trollano scored 13 points.
“Just be aggressive, iyun lang ang iniisip ko kapag nasa loob ako,” stated the small-forward/shooting guard, who has unquestionably earned a spot on SMB’s elite team.
Trollano (20 points per game on 62 percent field goals, 9.5 boards, and 2.0 dimes) was declared the PBA Press Corps-Pilipinas Live Player of the Week for the period of May 22 to 26 due to his outstanding play in the past two games.
Among his more famous teammates, Fajardo and CJ Perez, as well as Barangay Ginebra workhorse Christian Standhardinger, who led the Gin Kings to a 3-2 lead against Meralco in their side of the Final Four, Trollano was chosen as the PBA beat’s best player of the week by the men and women covering the league.
Since being selected by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters with the 15th overall pick in the 2015 PBA draft, Don Trollano has established himself as a prominent figure in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Trollano showed improvement as a dependable player throughout his first seasons with Rain or Shine, averaging 3.7 points per game (PPG) in his debut year and rising to 5.5 PPG by the 2017–18 campaign.
After being moved to TnT Katropa in 2018, Trollano’s performance significantly improved there. He played in 47 games in 2019 and averaged 5.5 rebounds per game (RPG) and 9.5 points per game. Against the Columbian Dyip, he scored a career-high 19 points, and in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals in 2019, he scored a postseason career-high 18 points.
Trollano transferred to Blackwater Elite for the 2019 Governor’s Cup, where he performed even better, averaging 14.2 PPG and 8.5 RPG in 2020. His performance demonstrated how adaptable he is to different teams and responsibilities.
In 2021, Trollano became a member of the NLEX Road Warriors through a noteworthy transaction. After reuniting with Coach Yeng Guiao, he had impressive numbers in his debut season with NLEX, averaging 10.5 PPG and 5.6 RPG. He made a game-winning basket against TNT in the 2022 Philippine Cup and scored 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter against the Meralco Bolts, two clutch efforts that defined his tenure with NLEX.
Trollano had a particularly impressive 2022–2023 season, averaging a career-high 16.2 points per game while shooting 43.8% from three-point range and 46.9% from the field. He scored 44 points in a game against the Terrafirma Dyip in March 2023, breaking the PBA record with nine straight three-pointers made without a miss.
In a three-team transaction involving San Miguel, NLEX, and NorthPort Batang Pier, Trollano was moved to the San Miguel Beermen on December 11, 2023. Trollano has played in 227 games in his career, averaging 8.6 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, and shooting 41.2% from the field and 34.7% from three-point range.
