MANILA, Philippines – After suffering a crushing five-set loss to Chery Tiggo, Petro Gazz triumphed over Capital1 in a decisive comeback, winning 25-11, 25-19, and 25-14. This set up Petro Gazz for the exciting semifinal match that will take place at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
Throughout the whole seventy-two-minute game, the Angels’ show of firepower, coordination, and experience—especially with Brooke Van Sickle at the point of attack—overpowered the Solar Spikers.
Petro Gazz dominated the opening set, scoring 16 attack points to Capital1’s meager three, laying the groundwork for their decisive win. Taking advantage of the Solar Spikers’ weak receiving, the Angels scored nine aces while giving up only two, maintaining their dominance at the net with seven blocks to their opponents’ two.
Even though Capital1 put up a strong fight in the second set, Petro Gazz skillfully rebounded and delivered crushing shots to stop their opponents’ momentum before reclaiming the lead in the third frame.
Petro Gazz’s record improved to 5-2 with the win, keeping them close to joint leaders Creamline, Choco Mucho, and PLDT, who all have 5-1 slates.
Following the break during Holy Week, action picks back up at the Pasig arena on April 2, with PLDT taking on Akari and Choco Mucho clashing with Galeries Tower.
“I’m incredibly pleased of my team for being able to bounce back the way we did,” Van Sickle, who made a comeback to play for Petro Gazz, said after his side’s victory. He finished with 19 points, including 15 kills topped by an amazing 58 percent attacking efficiency.
She highlighted the value of teamwork and acknowledged the accomplishments of her coworkers. She also praised their team effort, acknowledging that every member contributed to obtaining the win.
She said, “I thought everyone did such an amazing job.”
Despite playing against a less skilled opponent, Petro Gazz maintained composure and refrained from underestimating Capital1.
“It makes no difference who the opposing team is. Capital 1 is a tenacious squad. But we can accomplish our goals if we maintain our concentration,” Van Sickle remarked.
Jonah Sabete led the way with nine points, Remy Palma chipped in with seven, and Kecelyn Galdones and setter Ivy Perez all finished with six points.
Five other players, including Myla Pablo, contributed a total of 13 points, which helped Coach Koji Tsuzurabara maintain a balanced scoring effort and provide the required direction during pivotal moments in the game.
Lourdes Clemente led the Solar Spikers with six points, followed by Heather Guino-o with five, Janeca Lana and Sydney Niegos with four each. Despite this, the Solar Spikers lost 1-6.

After losing to Chery Tiggo recently, Creamline is motivated to continue winning. It is getting ready for a tough matchup against Cignal in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
This Holy Tuesday matchup between dominant teams looking to boost their semifinal hopes should be exciting. They are moving into the critical stage of the single round preliminary round, where each match is highly important.
After defeating the HD Spikers, the Cool Smashers are looking to take the top place, tied with Creamline, Choco Mucho, and PLDT at 5-1. However, Cignal, which is now tied for fourth place with a 4-1 slate, is also trying to win again and create a three-way tie at the top.
The much awaited main event begins at 6:00 p.m. and promises a thrilling matchup between two of the league’s best teams, despite the seriousness of Holy Week. Fans are ready for a brutal matchup.
The Cool Smashers, who were stopped by the Crossovers on March 16 of last year after a thrilling 19-game run that included 15 straight victories en route to the Second AFC title, will once more be captained by Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Alyssa Valdez, Michele Gumabao, Bernadette Pons, and Pangs Panaga.
However, the HD Spikers are also proud of their strong lineup, which includes Roselyn Doria, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Ces Molina, Vanie Gandler, and Chin Basas.
