MANILA, Philippines – University (NU) Lady Bulldogs got off to a flying start in their quest for a second consecutive UAAP women’s volleyball championship title. They easily brushed aside Ateneo de Manila University with a 3-0 sweep at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The Lady Bulldogs were unstoppable as they cruised to a 25-15, 25-20, and 25-16 victory.
The win was an emphatic statement from NU, who proved they are still a force to be reckoned with in the UAAP women’s volleyball scene. The team showed great teamwork, with their excellent ball distribution, blocking, and defense. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the game, with their star players, Alyssa Solomon and Mhicaela Belen, leading the charge.
Solomon, who was named the Finals MVP in the previous season, showed why she is considered one of the best players in the league. She finished the game with 12 points, including ten attacks, a block, and an ace of service. Despite the convincing win, she emphasized that the team still has a lot to improve on.
“We’re delighted because we can see what we’ve been preparing for, and we’re also happy that we can apply it to the game, but we won’t settle because we still have a lot to learn,” said Solomon.
Belen, who was named the Rookie MVP for Season 84, echoed Solomon’s sentiments. She emphasized that the team still has a problem with unforced errors, which they need to work on.
“We are pleased to see what we have been practicing over the past months, although it is not yet polished. We still have a lot of errors, and I think we can improve that,” added Belen, who contributed eight points on five spikes, two aces, and a block.
Despite the win, the Lady Bulldogs were not content and are already looking forward to their next game against Adamson University. The Lady Falcons defeated the University of the East in straight sets and will pose a tough challenge to NU. The Lady Bulldogs will need to continue their excellent form and work on minimizing their errors to secure another win.
NU head coach, Norman Miguel, praised his team for their performance and urged them to continue working hard and improve in every game.
“I’m happy with the way the team played, but we still have a long way to go. We need to work on our mistakes and keep improving as the season progresses,” said Miguel.
The Lady Bulldogs are one of the favorites to win the UAAP women’s volleyball championship this season. With their dominant performance in their opening game, they have shown that they are a team to be feared. If they can continue to play at this level and minimize their errors, they could be on their way to another championship title.
