MANILA, Philippines – The fifth game of the OKBet-Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League took place late Monday at Strike Gym in Bacoor, and Cloacan pulled away in the second overtime to defeat Bacoor 84 to 75.
Starting the second extension with a nine-point run that was completed by a three-pointer from Paul Sanga, the Batang Kankaloo built a lead of 80 to 71 that was sufficient to hold off the Strikers, who made several futile attempts to decrease the deficit to 74 to 80.
The third victory for Caloocan was then secured by Jeramer Cabanag and Gabby Espinas, who each made two free throws.
Sanga led Caloocan with 14 points and 4 rebounds in the game’s final tally. Reil Cervantes had 11 points, while Espinas contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
James Kwekuteye contributed 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals for the Strikers, who lost after four wins.
Earlier, Sarangani and Oriental Mindoro were defeated by San Juan and Iloilo in different fashions.
The Iloilo United Royals overcame Mindoro Disiplinados, 86 to 79, and the San Juan Knights thrashed the Sarangani Marlins, 103 to 87, after coming back from nine points behind in the fourth.
By putting the game out of reach at 89 to 60 and improving to 2 to 0, San Juan was propelled by Egie Boy Mojica and AC Soberano.
The Knights, led by Senator Jinggoy Estrada, recorded Mojica’s 19 points and four rebounds and Soberano’s 15 points and seven rebounds.
With 13 points and 6 rebounds, Adrian Nocum and Orlan Wamar both performed admirably for San Juan. Orlan Wamar added 11 points and 6 assists.
Despite Jeff Viernes’ 18 points and six rebounds, Sarangani lost, dropping to a record of 3 to 2.
Joshua Flores scored 17 points and pulled down five rebounds for the United Royals, who ultimately fell short.
