As Bacoor flees Iloilo in overtime, Jhan Nermal assumes control in the MPBL

MANILA, Philippines – Early this week the fifth season of the OKBet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) at the Bacoor Strikers Gymnasium, Bacoor and Negros both triumphed in overtime to defeat their rivals.

In a thrilling matchup, the Bacoor City Strikers showcased their resilience as they mounted an impressive comeback to secure a hard-fought victory over the Iloilo United Royals. With just 2 minutes and 22 seconds remaining on the clock, the Strikers demonstrated their composure by sinking six crucial free throws, effectively shutting down the Royals’ offense and limiting them to only one field goal. The final score stood at an exhilarating 74 to 69 in favor of the determined Bacoor City squad.

Notable performances from the Iloilo United Royals included Justine Sanchez, who contributed 13 points, while Marlon Basco added 12 points to the team’s efforts. Tony Ynot displayed his versatility with an impressive stat line of 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Joshua Flores and CJ Catapusan chipped in with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Justine Sanchez also made a significant impact by adding 13 points to the team’s overall tally.

Meanwhile, the Laguna squad suffered a disappointing loss against Negros, despite initially establishing a commanding 42 to 22 lead. Their 12th defeat in 15 games highlighted the challenges they faced in maintaining their momentum throughout the match. Leading the way for Negros were Nemesis Dela Cruz with 12 points, Itchie Altamirano with 10 points, and Pao Javelona, who contributed 13 points to secure the victory for the Muscovados.As expected, Imus SV Squad won the first game by a score of 80 to 66 over Valenzuela XUR Homes Realty Inc., bringing their record up to 6 to 7.

Imus found success behind the impressive performance of Johnsherick Estrada, who contributed 17 points, while Carlo Lastimosa added 13 points to the team’s scoring efforts. Bryan Faundo showcased his all-around skills with 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Poypoy Actub also chipped in with 10 points. Valenzuela’s Darell Manliguez led his team’s scoring with 16 points, and Michael Macion made his presence felt with 14 points and an impressive 12 rebounds.

At the Bren Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, the MPBL action will continue Thursday with a triple header featuring Pasig versus Pampanga at 8 p.m., Caloocan versus Manila at 6 p.m., and Bacolod versus Rizal at 4 p.m.
