MANILA, Philippines – Basketball fans can’t wait for Arwind Santos to return to the court in the 2023 MPBL season. The 42-year-old forward’s experience will help the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in their push for the postseason. Santos, who is from Pampanga, can now don the team’s uniform and represent his home region, so it’s kind of like a homecoming for him.

Arwind Santos’ inclusion on the Giant Lanterns’ roster significantly increases their level of expertise and experience. Santos has had a distinguished career playing basketball in the Philippines, winning the PBA MVP award in 2013. Along with his leadership skills, his versatility on offense and defense makes him a priceless asset for Pampanga as they prepare to play in the playoffs.

At the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center on Friday, the upcoming game against Marikina is anticipated to be an exciting event. Santos and his colleagues will be driven to establish themselves in the MPBL and win the title that has evaded the Giant Lanterns in past campaigns.

In Arwind Santos’ MPBL debut, Pampanga defeated Marikina.

This season in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), the Giant Lanterns are setting out on a historic journey with the goal of winning their first championship. They’ve hired Arwind Santos, a highly accomplished player who won the PBA MVP award in 2013, to reinforce their ranks.

A proud Angeles, Pampanga native, Arwind Santos has come home to join the Giant Lanterns. In addition to giving the squad a big boost, Dennis Pineda, the governor of Pampanga, is quite proud of this action. The head coach of the Giant Lanterns is Pineda, who first learned about Santos when he was a little child.

Santos brings a wealth of talent and experience to the court. He committed to NorthPort in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for a single season in 2022. Santos demonstrated his abilities during his time with the squad, appearing in 21 games and averaging 9.6 points and 6.7 rebounds. He adds value to the Giant Lanterns due to his influence on the court and leadership abilities.

Pampanga established itself as a dominant force in the MPBL, winning 26 games and losing only two, and taking first place in the North Division. High hopes have been placed in them for the playoffs as a result of their strong regular season performance. The group is preparing for a best-of-three quarter final series against Marikina in which they hope to advance closer to their goal of winning the championship.

Pampanga’s Giant Lanterns hope to make MPBL history with the help of Arwind Santos. Santos, along with fellow Kapampangan players Justine Baltazar and Encho Serrano, will likely make for a thrilling spectacle as they attempt to win a championship while trying to inscribe their names in Philippine basketball history.
