The incident might have been related to a play before the break when Chavez turned the ball over with his team behind 71-66.
There were barely 14 seconds left in the game when the incident took place during a timeout. With his team, the Marikina Shoemasters, behind Pasig City MCW Sports, Tolentino approached Felipe Chavez, his point guard, and started yelling at him.
In the viral footage, Tolentino is seen punching Chavez in the chest with a closed hand before repeatedly pulling him by the back of his shirt. Even several of the Pasig City players on the opposing team were stunned by this harsh behavior.
It is significant to remember that Tolentino is also a Marikina City councilor. The Marikina Shoemasters were defeated by Pasig City 71-66 in the last MPBL game.
