MANCHESTER, England – A total of 79 seconds. That was the duration of Arsenal’s hope. The excitement and suspense of the last Premier League day of the season ultimately lasted less than a minute, as Manchester City defeated West Ham 3-1 to secure a historic fourth consecutive title thanks to a sensational early goal from Phil Foden.

With two points in front of Arsenal heading into the final day, City knew that only a victory would ensure that it would keep the championship, while the Gunners needed to win and pray that Pep Guardiola’s team either drew or lost.

With two points in front of Arsenal heading into the final day, City knew that only a victory would ensure that it would keep the championship, while the Gunners needed to win and pray that Pep Guardiola’s team either drew or lost.

Arsenal played to the very end, winning 2-1 against Everton at home to finish two painful points behind City, but Foden’s goal made little difference to what was occurring 200 miles south in North London.

Not a single side has ever accomplished what we have, Foden, who was also named Premier League Player of the Season, said to Sky Sports.

You understand what it means to us, the fans. We were the first side to win the Premier League title, so it was a little more [special] since no team had done it before. I’m at a loss for words. I’m completely broken.

We’ve run over this situation a few times, and I believe it helped calm our worries since we seemed assured today. We had success playing football on our own.

Foden, who is still just 23 years old, has already won an incredible six Premier League championships. He is definitely not taking this sensation for granted.

He said, “I never get tired of it.” “I always want to feel like this. There’s no greater thrill than winning something. All I want is to keep winning as much as possible.

At a boisterous Etihad Stadium, Foden’s first goal—a left-foot rocket into the top corner—put an end to any early worries, if any. As City’s players and supporters enjoyed the Manchester sunshine for the last 88 minutes and 49 seconds, it was essentially a trophy celebration in its early stages.

The Englishman, a native of Manchester City, was living the dream when he scored the goal that gave his local team the league title, and things only got better from there.

After only fifteen minutes, Foden coolly side-footed the ball into the net after Jeremy Doku’s accurate cross managed to elude three West Ham players.

Mohammed Kudus, a midfielder for West Ham who has had an incredible debut season in the Premier League, momentarily made things interesting shortly before halftime when his spectacular bicycle kick cut City’s advantage in half.

Back in north London, Everton stunned everyone by taking the lead five minutes before halftime, but Arsenal quickly responded to ensure that the sides finished level at halftime.

Just over ten minutes into the second half, Rodri’s low drive from the edge of the box slipped past West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola’s fingertips and into the net, allaying any worries City may have had that West Ham would ruin the celebration.

There was no question now. The trophy from the Premier League would remain in Manchester.

The celebration had officially begun. For the next thirty-five minutes, City played the game like a training session, passing the ball around with a composure and poise that belied the magnitude of the event.

Even though Kai Havertz gave Arsenal the victory over Everton in the 89th minute while they were back in London, it was the palest of victories.

One of the best teams in Premier League history, if not the best, has been assembled by Guardiola.

Now that Manchester City has gone to places no side in English football has gone before, it will probably take an enormous effort from Arsenal or maybe Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp to topple this powerhouse the next season.
