Players will be kneeling during games played between October 8 and October 16 as part of the No Room For Racism campaign to combat discrimination, the Premier League has announced.
Additionally, it has been announced that players would kneel during Boxing Day games, as well as those played the weekend before the season ends and the FA and Carabao Cup finals.
Fighting racism and all forms of prejudice is always a priority for the Premier League and our clubs, according to Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters. We implore everyone to participate and show that racism is intolerable in both football and society at large.
“We support the decision made by players to take the knee at specific moments during the season and we will use these matches to further promote anti-discrimination and educate fans.
“We continue to work hard to address discrimination and improve opportunities within the game, in line with our No Room For Racism Action Plan. We know more can be done to remove barriers to make football more inclusive, and that football will benefit from greater diversity across all areas of the sport.”
Ahead of the 2022–23 season, the choice to kneel throughout every game was abandoned. Instead, Premier League captains opted to participate in the gesture at special times.
After the passing of George Floyd in the US, players would frequently take the knee during games to demonstrate their support for the fight against discrimination.
Football in the Premier League will continue through November 13 and restart on December 26 following the World Cup in Qatar.
