After recuperating from an injury, Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, has been added to England’s roster for the Nations League games against Germany and Italy.

While the team continues to train at St. George’s Park in anticipation of their forthcoming games, the 32-year-old has already joined them.

After hurting his hamstring in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory against Newcastle United on August 31, Henderson was initially expected to miss three weeks of action.

Despite not being included in the initial 28-man squad last week, he had kept in touch with manager Gareth Southgate and was anxious to participate in England’s final training camp before the World Cup in Qatar.

He has now demonstrated his physical preparedness by completing many training sessions in recent days.

The news of Henderson’s comeback will cheer Jurgen Klopp, the manager of his team, who has seen him play five times in the Premier League so far this season.

Jordan Henderson has led Jürgen Klopp’s defending champion team, Liverpool, to seven trophies.

The midfielder, a tireless and motivating force, has won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA World Cup, Emirates FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Carabao Cup, and FA Community Shield, all while performing his signature “Hendo shuffle,” solidifying his reputation as a legendary Reds captain.

The League Cup Henderson won in 2011–12, his first season with the club, completes the collection of awards.

In the 2019–20 season, Henderson continued to grow in stature after being the fifth captain of Liverpool to win the European Cup, after Emlyn Hughes, Phil Thompson, Graeme Souness, and Steven Gerrard.

The Football Writers’ Association named Henderson Footballer of the Year, recognizing his contributions on and off the field as Klopp’s team broke a 30-year domestic dominance drought and became the first Liverpool team to win a world championship.

Henderson joined Liverpool from Sunderland in the summer of 2011, and his prominence at Anfield was highlighted when he was named the team’s vice-captain in September 2014. After Steven Gerrard left, Henderson then assumed the armband permanently in July 2015.

In June 2021, he would mark ten years at Anfield, and a few months later, he would sign a new, long-term contract to continue his relationship with the team.

As Liverpool won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during the 2021–22 season, Henderson made 57 appearances for the club, the most games for a team in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

He led Klopp’s team to their third Champions League final victory to top off a long season, and in the early months of 2022–2023, he reached the milestone of 450 club appearances. Only Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have played in more Premier League games for Liverpool than Henderson, a regular for England.

This Friday, England and Italy will play at the San Siro in Milan.
