MANILA, Philippines – In Sunday night’s 39th Kadayawan Invitational basketball tournament final at the University of Southeastern Philippines gymnasium in Davao City, Rain or Shine easily defeated De La Salle 138-116 to clinch a sweep of the competition.
With import Aaron Fuller, guards Andrei Caracut and Gian Mamuyac, and sophomore big man Keith Datu providing firepower, the Elasto Painters gave the Green Archers little chance, outscoring them 42 points in the first quarter and leading by a significant 77-59 at the intermission.
The squad won the title and the P200,000 prize money thanks to the contributions of Fuller, who concluded with 34 points and 11 rebounds, Caracut, who contributed 21 points, eight assists, and three rebounds, Mamuyac, who had 17, and Datu, who made 3-of-4 long-range shots for 17 points.
Additionally, Caracut received the title of Finals MVP at the yearly celebration of the Kadayawan festival.
Rain or Shine had an unbeaten record over the four days of the Kadayawan Invitational basketball tournament. They finished 4-0 in the single round-robin elimination stage. Their triumphs over Converge, Phoenix, and La Salle established their supremacy and led to a well-earned championship.
With a total of 14 points in the championship game, Anton Assistio led the attack for the Elasto Painters. Adrian Nocum and Jhonard Clarito, who both contributed ten points to the scoreboard, made noteworthy contributions to the squad.
