With significantly smaller line-ups, Northport opened its season when they faced Rain or Shine on Thursday in the PBA Season 47 Philippine Cup.
The Batang Pier and Elastopainters jump at 7:15 p.m.
Northport was left with a small lineup from previous seasons with seven-footer Greg Slaughter yet to sign a contract and Troy Rike yet to report to the team. Northport gets off to a sizzling start in the PBA with a 13-point rout of ROS.
MJ Ayaay will also serve as a new face for Northport apart from Javier.
Batang Pier will be forced to rely on Robert Bolick, Jamie Malonzo, and Arwind Santos in the absence of Slaughter and Rike. Bolick led the way with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
Malonzo recorded a double-double 18 markers and 15 boards in the win.
On the other hand, Elastopainters showed signs of life with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter, cutting the Batang Pier’s lead back to just 10, 84-74. Mike Nieto a former member of Gilas Pilipinas forward, was the lone bright spot for Elastopainters as he scored a team-high 19 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
