At the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Wednesday night, Converge ended its PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup campaign with a victory over TNT, 107-103.
With 10.7 seconds remaining, Deschon Winston made both of his free throws coolly, which was more than enough to seal the victory for the Tropang Giga, who had come back from a 16-point deficit to trail by just two, 105-103, behind Roger Pogoy.
After finishing 2–9 in their conference, the FiberXers will now focus on the next, hopefully hectic offseason for their youthful squad.
Following the injury to starting players Justin Arana, Alec Stockton, and Bryan Santos, Aljun Melecio led the second group’s comeback with 17 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Even though Arana and Santos each scored 15 points, the players who came off the bench had a significantly greater influence on the victory that raised spirits.
With 13 points and seven rebounds in the game, Winston led the way, but Pat Maagdenberg, another rookie, surprised everyone with 12 points.
Calvin Oftana scored 33 points and Pogoy scored 29 for the Tropang Giga, who lost and had to postpone their quarterfinal trip. The Tropang Giga finished at 5-5.
Glenn Khobuntin scored 11 points and Kim Aurin scored 13, but the rally was short since Kelly Williams was apparently absent with back issues.
TNT will take on current No. 4 seed Magnolia (5-4) on Sunday, May 5, at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in an attempt to secure their spot in the next round. TNT is currently tied for fifth position in the standings with Rain or Shine, Meralco, and Terrafirma.
