Aldin Ayo mentioned several names he would want to see included in his wish list, even though Converge is a lock to be the first overall pick in the Season 49 PBA Rookie Draft.
The player the FiberXers coach would most like to see on the club by the next season is a no-brainer, as he emphasizes the need for another big man to support franchise player and former Rookie of the Year Justin Arana.
Among those on his list were Justine Baltazar, the UAAP champion and MPBL MVP, and Carl Tamayo, a former star player for the University of the Philippines.
The 7-foot-3 Sotto, a big man from the Philippines who averaged 12.8 points and 6.4 rebounds, recently finished his season with the Yokohama B-Corsairs, a team that did not make it to the Japan B.League playoffs.
In the meantime, Tamayo, 23, has long been free to play for the Ryukyu Golden Kings in the B.League, as per his wish. Since then, head coach Tim Cone has invited him back to the nation and added him to the Gilas Pilipinas pool.
The 6-foot-9 Baltazar, who is a recognized protégé of Pampanga Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda and has close ties to the FiberXers franchise, had long been reported to be Converge’s first pick.
The 27-year-old Mabalacat, Pampanga native is presently a member of the MPBL’s reigning champion Pampanga Giant Lanterns squad.
Ayo’s wish list also includes Kevin Quiambao, the UAAP MVP and another pool player for Gilas Pilipinas; however, the 6-foot-7 forward chose to stay with De La Salle to play one more year as the team competes for a back-to-back UAAP championship this season.
